bathroom rant - 10-20-2019, 05:02 PM

I went to a Action computers store in Arvada Colorado this morning to get my computer fixed or maybe buy a new one.
I'm 72 years old and really needed to use their bathroom.
I was told that the nearest bathroom was at the thrift store next door.
Now thats how to treat a customer.
I left and went to Best Buy and bought a new computer.
They let you use their bathroom.

Glad you bought a new computer......I hope it was a towered PC.....they're a dying breed!

FWIW, I also have a sign saying "NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS". Mine is in the very back of the building, and I honestly don't want strangers being back there.....could compromise things.

I bought a laptop for my wife.
If a business won't let me use the bathroom they lose my patronage.

Ironic, in 30 years of business and never having a 'public bathroom', it never cost me a sale or repair....but I guess if you have to go that bad!!

I was flyng out of Detroit and topped off my rental car at a gas station very near the airport. These places typically have inflated prices, but it is still cheaper than having the rental agency fuel the car.

After spending close to $75, was told they had no public restroom. I walked behind the building to do what needed doing. Wasn't the first one, by any means. Never knew anybody could shit that high on a wall. Apparently quite a few people can.

While it is insulting to be denied the use of facilities, one has to acknowledge there could be legitimate reasons why it is in everyone's best interest to keep patrons in predetermined and controlled areas.

Customer in the work area is orange. Minimize potential for injury or crime by preventing access to area.

Red area can't exist, if business wants to stay in business.

Green? Shits gonna happen, sometimes.

Yellow? More shit gonna happen, more.

If I'm denied use of the bath room at a business I just leave.
So they never know they lost a sale because of it.
I did leave a review on Yelp about it.

That's how I knew.....I never had someone ask, and when I said sorry but there's no public restroom, they didn't turn around and walk out. In all those years I've been asked about the bathroom maybe a dozen times....it wasn't a hot topic.

Good for you. If you are patronizing a business, denying the use of the restroom is out of line.

A friend of mine had a small business and got a bad review on Yelp. They told him it could be removed for a fee. I don't use or believe the Yelp reviews for that reason alone. I'm not sure if I think reviews are a good thing or bad thing, but fee removal gives me a lot of pause. Not that much different than an extortion fee to unlock your own computer. I guess it is a pay to play world with few exceptions. No matter how good your product or service, there will always be critics and assholes. The bigger you get the more likely someone is willing to sue you. I think the best policy is to be consistent and friendly. You only need a few satisfied customers who know and trust you to keep your business healthy.

I stopped at local convenience store to buy some cigars last week, woman with her kid asked to use the restroom and was told no, I ended up stopping at the next store a few miles down, as I had forgot my lighter and there was that same lady spending a good chunk of change at the place that let her use the bathroom(she didn't buy anything at the place that told her no). Although different industries have different practices, imagine going to a nice restaurant and them not having a bathroom.
With your computer hardware stuff, probably don't matter much.

That you know of. With the homeless problem now I cut businesses some slack but for most of my life if I saw a “no public restroom” sign I just didn’t shop there. Ever.
