I visited Bill Curran yesterday to be fitted for billiard eyewear. I have been using specialty glasses for years and cannot play without them. Bill has so many positive reviews I decided to see him. He spent a good amount of time showing the various choices and what fits/works best for me. I'm going with a Progressive lens. The frames are extremely light weight. They are on order and I should have them in 2 weeks. Will follow up.

All of his contributions to this forum are him pimping his glasses.

If for nothing else, I would go with the other options available for those who add something.

Just my .02

I think you are right... I should buy a eyewear from someone that has no idea what they are doing but contribute a lot to the forum. What am I thinking?
I hope I love them. I will thank Bill a million times for offering his services here.

I'd like to ask you.... do you need/use billiard eyewear?

I have no regrets from my Bill Curran purchase. Literally the only billiard product I purchased that immediately improved my game.

I used his glasses at one time - only contacts now- I thought they were just OK- and for the price not spectacular- my real problem was when I wanted to change out the lenses as my prescription changed ( that happens to ALL of us) other opticians would NOT touch the frames because Bill used drill through lenses. So I cannot use any insurance with my own opticians- would have to go back to Bill Curran everytime I needed a lense change at his high cash prices. Ask him if yours are drill through lenses, if so, he OWNS you!

Owned. If his work is that good I’m staying with him. My eyes are fubar. If Curran’s eyewear helps me I’m dedicated. If Curran is too expensive or a person feels owned and can find better and cheaper that’s a great find. Specialty items are custom. They do not come off the shelf. Me... I can’t find better and cheaper right now.
I went to a recommended specialist. And for the sake of being owned.... I’M MARRIED :killingme::killingme::

Any good ophthalmologist can produce a blended prescription to satisfy near & far sighted problems.
Mine did as I’ve previously explained and the selection of frames is vast unlike the selection options
with Curran that are limited. Dealing with someone local, in person, makes it so much easier. My eye
Dr. Is local and getting the frames and new lenses done locally is 1,2,3, and done. Any maintenance or
repair on the frames is more convenient & IMO, there’s also many other frame & lens shapes to consider.
For the price of these billiard glasses, you can save money doing it locally & the glasses will look better.
I had considered getting a pair after my prescription had changed but for the price, I did better locally.
Since my cataract surgeries last month, my glasses reside in my sock drawer forever more...Alleluiah.

I would NOT rate eyeglass lenses as a "specialty item" MY POINT was that Curran CREATES eyeglass lenses and frames as a "specialty Item" by using a method that most local opticians will not guarantee if you ask them to duplicate- and there is no reason why he must use drill through lenses other than to continue to charge you ridiculous prices for them. Just trying to help out ALOT of people on this site that may not have e the $$$ to keep up with their constantly changing eye prescriptions or would like to use their medical insurance for eyeglasses - he is no help for either of those scenarios, there are other places to go for oversize glasses without that stipulation. An educated consumer is the best customer- I don't blindly pay for any item just because it works- maybe the first time, but I always look for the best solution at the best price. That is all I am trying to point out to those here who may not have unlimited $$$

Totally agree. I have someone close by(10 minutes) and have used them for years. Not bad. Not cheap...Just trying someone different this time. I'm an hour ride from Curran..

Point taken and appreciated, I'm not saying Curran is the bottom line or only show in town. I'm not saying I like his work as I do not have the glasses at this time. Purpose of this thread is for players that might consider using him or have no where to turn to for eyewear. I'm doing this as a "Curran Review". Simply stating my personal experience with his shop. I'm in no way saying it can't be done by a local optician.... it certainly can if they understand what is needed and will work with you.

I've talked to Bill at his booth in Super Billiards Expo. He told me his lenses are done in-house. Regular opticians send your frame out to a lab and won't have the insight to adjust for pupil height needed for pool.

Unfortunately, my high myopia (upwards of -10. combined with astigmatism) doesn't make me a suitable candidate.
