Naturally... the title is tongue in cheek. The notion that one of our wonderful games tarnishes another of our wonderful games seems wrong headed. As an older person I remember well the pooh poohing of 9 ball in lieu of the "real game" of 14.1. Why some of us can't embrace all cueist sports and it's variants is beyond me. I appreciate those that love the small games. I for one support all those that promote free game,1 rail, balkline.
If I may share a game that is not caroms but employs many of its techniques.

"Why some of us can't embrace all cueist sports and it's variants is beyond me"
exactly, why none but 1 percent of american carom players, or less, dont dare try straight rail is beyond me as well

i actually play 9/8ball 1pkt 14.1 golf pool
love snooker and english billiards though i dare not attempt snooker
of course all carom, but the 3c crowd in the us is behind the statement, taken from a much older thread btw

simply put, theres SO much your missing ,
theres just so much your not learning about how the balls react when you dont play classic games
granted, im very aware that most americans, those that even know about 3c, barely ever even heard of anything else

thats what im here for, seems like some are starting to see

your alright steve
