Mosconi Cup

Hello USA

Any AZ posters hopping across the pond next week?

It looks likely that the York Hall will be a sell out for all sessions.
No Earl, but still looking forward to this one, especially seeing
Shane Van Boening and Dennis Hatch in live action. From watching
a pumped up Dennis H in Vegas, I reckon for sure he will thrive in
the atmosphere that the York Hall creates.

As expected, a strong line up for both sides, a real close one to call.
Should be a quality event. Good luck USA, but go on GB*

*Ooops! and the rest of Europe!

[...in Sean's best "action hound" mimicry...] "What?!? Shane and Dennis are matching up for action?!?" :D

J/K!

Pitster, *of course* we're looking forward to the Mosconi Cup! I think that goes without saying -- and probably why you've not received any replies from the "other side of the pond" to date. Might be us Yanks are scratching our heads, asking ourselves, "is this one of those Brit dry humor trick questions?" :D

And we have a lot of Dennis, Shane, Corey, Johnny, Rodney, and Nick fans over here -- even we couldn't think of a grouping of more popular players than these, if we were to do the Mosconi Cup "sans Earl."

Anyway, regardless of the outcome, here's one Yank who cordially wishes the other side of the pond a heartfelt "good luck" and offers his full beer stein to tap into yours as a toast.

Warmest regards,
-Sean

Any interest in The States for the Mosconi Cup?

You better believe there is interest over here;). I look forward to this all year long. I also hope to see as much as I can and love the drama. Having much of my family living in England I will hear from them if team Europe wins. And they will hear from me if team USA takes the cup back home.

Good luck Pitster:D.

Anyone in the US looking forward to the Mosconi Cup?

I look forward to it every year. Hopefully some day I will be able to see it played live. It's definitely on my list of tournaments that I want to see along with the U.S. Open and of course the DCC.

And of course I am rooting for the U.S. team. You just gotta love the enthusiasm that Dennis Hatch brings to the team. Not knocking the Europeans as I love watching those guys play as well, but gotta root for the home team ;)

Shame you can't be on this side of the Atlantic for the next few days
for beers and pool. Any Americans making the trip will be guaranteed
a warm reception and are more than welcome to join us for a few
beers around London.

Hopefully fruehlein's link works and you all get chance to see
the action live. Check out his link on this thread.

Jimmy Wych and I are flying out today on Virgin Atlantic. We are sitting next to each other so we can talk pool all the way.
I'm really looking forward to this Mosconi Cup. Europe was the big favorite last year in Vegas and fell victim to a Hatch Attack! They badly want revenge this year on their home court. But I doubt the Americans will go quietly, and players like Shane, Johnny and Rodney won't let anything bother them. Players for both teams are talking some trash already, and it will come down to who has the most nerve and strongest heart. A competition like this is all about who handles the pressure the best. I'm JAZZED!

Tomorrow's three point plan...

1. Sail through a days work.
2. A quick pint (or two) at 6pm.
3. York Hall 7pm

Looking forward to this one, raising a glass to four days of quality action.
Let battle commence : )

IMO, the potential European achilles heel... it will be interesting to see
how Karl Boyes handles the intensity of the Mosconi Cup.

Just a thought, with the event back in London, I wonder if Sid Waddell
will be popping into the commentary box. If so, then it will truly feel
like the old days in the York Hall, although a translator maybe required
for the American audience!

Now *that* sounds like a plan. I wish I could just "pop on down" to York Hall to watch the Hatchetman do some head-cuttin' in person. I'll definitely do the multiple-pints thing, but I can't even watch it on the telly, much less be there in person. Do you really have to rub it in? :D As Elmer Fudd would say, "you wascally wabbit, you!" :p

As for Sid Waddelll, oh-don't-you-worry-about-us-Yanks -- if he's commentating, believe me, we'll "get it." Sid's one of my favorites. I borrow his lines from time to time.

I'm having a Bombay Blue Sapphire and tonic right now -- holding it high and toasting your good fortune to have such a spectacular event so close by... <ting!>

Let the fireworks begin!

Hey you weren't joking dave, he was there, although his drink was already
fully loaded and he was in deep conversation with someone. His double
will have to wait!

A cracking atmosphere and it's only Thursday! Hopefully the tempo,
the fun, the banter and the play will go up a few more notches tomorrow
and over the weekend.

A few Americans have camped in the usual corner at the York Hall,
I'm sure they are enjoying it as well. An old couple with stars and
stripes jumpers are certainly enjoying the occasion... I think they
are best mates now with a group of kilt wearing Scottish men.

Men in skirts! It's always baffled me.

Anyway 2-1 to USA, nevermind, but it was great live entertainment.
A cracking show at the York Hall. Roll on tomorrow.

How about a look around tomorrow at 6 pm your time?

Let us know what you see and what's going on about, ok mate?
We need some eyes and ears on that side of the pond.

No need for me to file a report JoeyA.

You are getting great insight into Team USA from Fatboy
You are getting great match day summaries from Jay Helfert
You are getting great pictures from fruehlein

Combine these three treats JoeyA and you are practically
sat here, with me, in the East End of London, enjoying a pint
and a plate of pie and mash.

I think, the only thing you are missing out on, is the actual
atmosphere that's generated in the York Hall.

It's all you want from a live sporting event.
Mosconi Cup! Roll on tomorrow.

Men in skirts are welcome as well (sorry Pat!).

I think Karl handled it really well... Actually him and especially Darren seem thrive under the pressure, feeding off it
