Agreed. Gerry's score is very strong. But I'm sure you can top it. I look forward to seeing how high of a score you can post.

Good luck,

Any thoughts / suggestions ?

edit: I'm not even sure I will be able to record for long enough on the phone to film the entire exam - I dont have a memory card in the i-phone.
A camcorder on a tripod (or wall or ceiling mount) is definitely the best way to go. They aren't that expensive and they are a good investment for training and other purposes.

Happy filming,
Dave

Hmm - I already do have an old camcorder - 7 years old - (but no tripod)- but I dont think its digital - it deffo uses 'tapes' - but I've got a feeling its recording in analogue on the tape not digital - not sure that would make any difference in this case anyway. Whatever the tape signal is - how to easily get the stream onto the PC ?

Not exactly quick & easy to convert & get a 'tape' video recording posted on youtube ?

Buying a new digital camcorder & tripod would deffo be easy, but not cost free ;-p
Thanx
Cheers.
edit: filming on 'tape' & playing back thru the TV - record the TV playback on i-phone video ? (point the phone at the TV while its playing back & record) (LOL - The quality would prolly be pretty poor ?)

Hello
As promised, i took up the fundamental exam recently and my result is 39/100. Screwed up too much in the first 3 drills and did not want to start from the beginning to assure fairness. About 50 points is what corresponds to my current skill level, unfortunately.

Table 9 footer, tight pockets.

Things I would change: cushion contact in stop drills shouldn't be allowed.

Overall a great job on the exams, keep up good work.

When you get a chance to complete both exams (Exam I and Exam II), please post you BU score (and videos if possible) and table measurements so I can add you to the list.

Thanks for the input and positive feedback.

Good luck with Exam II (and Exam I if you decide to take it again).

Anybody out there still working on the exams? If you have posted before, please post again after practice so we can see how much you can improve. If you haven't tried the exams yet or posted scores, please do so. It would be interesting to see the level of play of more AZB'ers.

Have fun with the exams. I look forward to seeing more results (and videos).

Have fun with the exams. I look forward to seeing more results (and videos).
Dave, I really like them, and really want to do them again. I want to try it on 9' too. Lately, I have had so much going on mentally that is not conducive to pool. Family health problems, ect. And when I do get my head right, it seems like my body won't let me play more than a half hour. I'm averaging about 3 hours a week at best. Half hour here, half hour there. I will get it all back together again and work on them some more!

Would be great to see some other scores! I don't think people realize just how much these drills can do to improve their game.

Neil,

I'm sorry to hear that life seems a little rough for you right now. I hope things get better for both you and your family soon.

I agree. I was hoping people would be more excited about participating and posting scores (and videos for those with cameras).

Anybody out there still working on the exams in the hopes of posting a score soon?

If you haven't checked out the BU playing-ability tests yet, give them a try. They are fun and provide an efficient and purposeful pool workout or practice session.

I look forward to seeing more scores and ratings from the hundreds of active AZB users out there.

Enjoy,
Dave

Dr. Dave and anyone who is thinking of taking the exams,

I have seen a big improvement in my game while earning my degree and afterward. I practice using the fundamental drills almost daily, which has helped greatly in my weaker areas of play. I am playing with a confidence now that I previously lacked and it feels great! I would encourage players who want to improve to try it out. I am also very proud of my diploma. It took time and effort for me to earn it and I'm really glad I did.

I made the exam II, and my score is 24/54 and improved slightly in the 'fundamentals' from 39 to 44. So the total score of the exams is 68.
0 points on safeties, jump, bank shots so there's definitely a little to work on
I will post the table measurements very soon, so that you can add me to the list. Regards.

Thank you for the "testimonial." I have also experienced improvement in my game through practicing the BU Exams. Hopefully, more people will try them and also benefit.

Best regards,
Dave

I've added you already (see below), but please post the table info after you take the measurements so I can update your line. Also, when you can find some time, please also run through the 10-ball ghost drill and post your score/rating on that.

Thank you for participating. I hope you enjoy and benefit from the exams.

FYI, if you want some help with the safeties, jumps, and banks, the following videos might be helpful:
NV D.12 - Safety Drill - from Vol-III of the Billiard University instructional DVD series
NV B.87 - Jump shot technique, from VEPS V
NV C.14 - Bank shot cut-angle-effects drills, from VEPP IV

Also, if you work more with the exams and get better scores in the future, please post again. It will be interesting to see how much you can improve with practice.

Regards,
Dave
