Rough estimate for moving a 9ft Diamond Pro Am 200 miles

Hey,

I was looking to buy a 9ft 1 slate Diamond Pro Am. It is current situated about 200 miles from me. When I asked around couple of local table movers in Atlanta, I got a moving and setup quote for $1750 and $3500.

Is that general quote for moving diamond tables 200 mile?

Thanks in advance,

Big difference in just moving an already disassembled table 9’ table to a new location and dropping off disassembled as opposed to the entire job of disassembling the table, then loading up and transporting it, then unloading it and re-assembling it at the new location. Also the kicker here is you’re dealing with a one piece slate, which is a completely different beast that most installers/movers really don’t want to touch, so they’re going to give you a high price, to make it worth their time, but more likely hoping that you’ll find someone else!

For an authorized Diamond installer / dealer like Trent who has experience moving tables like that without having to disassemble other than the legs, who likely has the specially made cart just for moving a table like that, assuming it doesn’t have to go up or down any flights of stairs, I’m sure you would get a more reasonable price, as it only entails a two-man crew. Without the specialized diamond dolly, you’re looking at a complete disassembly and reassembly, and a minimum of a six man crew at both ends to handle the slate, not to mention the liability of potential injury to one of the movers or the liability of the slate breaking at any point during the move.

It's 400 miles round trip, so $238 in mileage alone.
Probably 5 hours of driving.
More time to set up than to take down.

Any stairs at either place?

400 miles in five hours driving time? You’re planning on averaging 80 mph transporting a pool table in or out of greater Atlanta no less - good luck! And the 400 miles assumes the installer lives right at either destination or directly on the route, which is highly unlikely.

At the very minimum even if it’s a two-man crew with a diamond dolly and experience moving 9 foot diamond one piece slate tables, you are looking at an extremely long day for both, so a $1750 price quote, with the additional travel expenses, is certainly as reasonable a price quote as you are likely to get.

Chris, I didn't know where specifically and I was trying to go a bit low on that part but to also show driving time and mileage cost. Most ppl don't think about that when when hire someone to drive farther than across town.

I paid $575 to move one 2 miles, 9ft pro-am 1 piece slate, ground floor for both houses.

I used to work for a retailer and wish I had a pic of the chart on the wall.

It was a pricing chart in colors, depending on services and zone (location).

It read across the top: KDMSU
KD- knock down
M- move
SU set up

You could buy KD, M or SU...or any combination thereof.

Point being, did you think about doing the M yourself? Hire a guy to KD from sale point and then hire a different guy to SU.

10 hours driving time 50 an hour each for two(1000) and dollar a mile for their truck(400).
you are close to 1500 before the touching part.

no real dependable business is going to take less than that for employees and vehicle.
then allow 5 hours work time with the table 500 minimum.

so you are at 2500 about with no parts like new cloth or glue, staples etc.

plus they are entitled to down time on their truck while its sitting.
unforeseen time overruns you induce.

and most businesses that want to stay in business needs to bill out more than 50 an hour per person.
so even 3500 is reasonable since you want a quote.

ask for time and materials.

I used Level Best Billiards out of Loganville to set up my table in Alpharetta. They were very flexible and did good work.

I disassembled and moved my table myself, but they drove all the way over here and set it up for me for $200. My situation is totally different than yours but you should maybe get a quote from them as well.

Pro am, one piece slate. It’s designed to be moved easily. There is no disassembly, other then the legs, very simple. Ideally, you could rent the diamond cart. If not, a heavy furniture dolly, you haul trailer, and some muscle. It’s big and heavy, will have to not be stupid. Lot’s of vids on how to do it, very simple.

Quite a bit of muscle - 1200 pounds if not disassembled! Maybe 1150 once you remove the legs. The manpower part will be all about very gently tilting the entire table up on its side onto the dolly, then getting it from the dolly to the back of the truck and then back out of the truck once you reach the Destiination. The key would be having a truck with a lift gate that can safely support 1200+ pounds.

No truck required, any POS that can pull a trailer. A buddy, with a pick-up, is preferred. Even a Ford would do. You-Haul trailers have ramps. This is not hard. Diamonds do not play better then Gold Crowns. They actually kind of suck. There are no longer large numbers of pool rooms, with 50-100 tables, to host pro tournaments. Diamonds can easily be moved, in and out, of casinos, hotels, etc. This is why Diamonds dominate U.S. pro pool. Can you estimate the cost of crating, transporting, assembling, 50 three piece tables? Compare it to rolling in 50 one piece tables. My 5 year old grandson, is not strong enough to do it. He could easily stand by, and explain to me, how to do it. Diamonds are portable, they are designed to be.

Exactly this table can be moved, leveled and ready to play with the cloth already on it by two men, a youhaul trailer and a 65 ford pickup. Assuming it's on ground floor.

Anything you pay over about $800 you're getting it dry without a kiss.

Yes, with the Diamond cart, it's dummy proof. Without it, you have to pay attention. Simple, either way.

The $3500 quote I got is from Southern Billiards.

Yikes!

When I was looking up their contact info, I saw the tables they have for sale on their site. They list 9' ProAM w/Simonis for $6944 delivered and installed in metro Atlanta area. I wonder if you'd be better off getting new, depending on what the used table you are looking at is priced at.

Interestingly, the same site lists the 9' Professional with Simonis for $9044 delivered and installed. I wonder if there is some type of typo on one of the tables, as I believe they are just 400 or so apart on price from the factory direct.
