A friend of mine bought two Tascarella merry widow cues
Both Ebony

He said I could have the ebony of my choice

Some way or other he got a BEM and I m getting the ebony one

Here is the funny part,I have been looking for BEM and he wanted ebony
Now I am getting the ebony and he gets the BEM

Not that I am nto happy,I just wouldn't mind opening the box and getting the maple

Which one is nicer in your opinion? Steel joint on the ebony, not sure on the BEM

really makes no difference to me

As far as looks go

Might as well get black plastic much cheaper than ebony
Bem is pretty and gives you something to look at

I'd just be REAL careful if you ever decide to ship it. ;)

I know why you want the Maple cue...they look so classic and classy. They often stand out from across the room.

I prefer darker woods in general. BEM can be beautiful to look at but I love ebony and seeing the small contrasts in the grain.

Send me a PM when you decide to sell the ebony one. :)

I know I like maple forearms. I know I don’t like cocobolo forearms or at least the one I had. I had an ebony nosed predate Southwest. I liked it a lot and wish I still had it. I’m sure you’ll be happy with the ebony Tasc.

For a merry widow I would want BEM, I prefer ebony for points , butt sleeves, and for the forearm if combined with snakewood points. My favorite cues are any combinations of ebony points, ivory inlays, with either curly, or straight grain maple forearms; as well as snakewood points with ebony forearms and ivory inlays. MOP can substitute for the ivory inlays.
On the merry widows TAD and TS made some nice BEMs.

Post pics so we can decide. I like grain and sometimes the ebony can look like black plastic as was already mentioned.
Collectors actually like the jet black and some unscrupulous cuemakers would give it a dye job to get that plastic look.

I never thought ebony looks like plastic, if anything, plastic/phenolic looks like Ebony, lol.

I think an ebony merry widow with a white coated linen wrap looks awesome.

I’ve always been a fan of ebony nosed cues; especially now that I play with a revo. I think maple forearms with carbon shafts look kinda odd. But recently I’ve been curious as to why Efren has pretty much always used maple Merry Widow cues and would like to give one a try. Maybe there’s something to it, iunno. But if I had the choice I’d get the ebony Tascarella because I rarely see them without a maple nose

I have a wrapless ebony merry widow with tiger maple handle. Very appealing contrast between the woods.

The Black Boar web site says that birdseye and curly maples are susceptible to warping. For an uncored merry widow, as long as you are happy with the weight and balance, ebony might be the safer bet for a forearm.

I have owned several BEM cues, one of which is a merry widow that I have had for 35 years. i have not had problems with warpage. But I still keep Tony’s comment in mind when considering a purchase.

Ebony is more unstable than BEM.
if it has no points, coring will make much more stable.
