Problem with elk, it is very pithy. If you can find pieces that are solid and large enough it's fine. Might be better buying samba stag, or deer antler, I use a lot of moose tines. Most is more of a cream color with darker spots. Hard to find the real white.

Like already stated, it can be porous & pithy. Otherwise, it's amazing. Antler is one of nature's few materials that is specifically intended for high impact. It's hard, strong, and light weight.
