These are tooled GTF cases that we do for GTF Designs and IndyQShop. All these cases were done with 6oz veg tan cowhide.
This lineup of hand tooled GTF cases represents a direction we have been going in with our tooling for most of 2011. We wanted to explore what Paul Burnett calls Creative Stamping. Essentially with creative stamping you use the common stamping tools in uncommon ways to create visually rich and complex patterns. The variety is endless and the negative space can be used in combination with coloring to create wildly different looks.
The methods we use to achieve this level of precision are slow and meticulous. One slip of the concentration and the entire piece is ruined. Make an impression in the wrong spot and there is not any possible way to recover from it due to how the leather must be marked to place the tools when stamping.
The end result though is an amazing pattern done with no guidelines scribed into the leather. Thank you for looking.
