Superspeed cushions

Sorry to keep after this but here is
the problem.

I was told by a Brunswick representative
that the Artemis K55 profile matches the profile
of the Superspeed cushion better than the K66
profile does. This is on a late model GC5.

Does anyone have any practical experience with
newer GC5's? Maybe it would be better to replace
bad cushions with new Superspeeds and forget
about the Artemis cushions since the profile is not
exactly right.

How much better is the Artemis rubber than the
Superspeed and does it offset the fact that the
profiles are not an exact match?

I know these are tough questions to answer but
any thoughts or experiences would help.

Thanks

k55/ 66 define the profile and are different. 66 is not a 'fit' for a gc.

artemis makes both 55/66 and the 55 shouuld be a direct fit for superspeed tables,

diamond black cushions - cheaper than brunswick or artemis- are another option.

i have no wexperience w/ gc5 though...free advice with a money back guarantee.

General thought:
Put 100% confidence in what a pro mechanic here tells you.
Put 0% confidence in what a table mfg rep tells you unless he spent time working on tables.

Just curious what is wrong with your gc5 cushions? That table must be just a couple years old, and it already has a cushion problem? (I'm not a mechanic...)

OP had determined some of the cushions were not straight (bowed out - discussed in another thread) and IIRC this was as a result of cushion rather then rail defect.

Three of the six cushions bow towards
the center of the table 1/16". The three
other cushions are dead straight as is
the wood on all the rails.

The dealer seems willing to help with the
replacement of the superspeed cushions.
I wish I knew how frequently this problem
occurs. I would hate to get three more
cushions that aren't any better than the
last ones. Pain in the a$$ for all concerned.

Thanks again Dartman, your thoughts are
very helpful.

I'm only guessing here but I'd bet there is confusion caused by the fact that the Artemis Intercontinental K55 profile cushion happens to be called model #66.

Wouldn't be the first person to get confused by that - that honor would go to me.

Mark, please post the answer here because I thought ALL GC's took the K55 profile. Do the GC5's take the K66?

I'd take them up on replacing the cushions - all 6 if they will.
Superspeeds are ok they just dont have the life like artemis.

The Gold Crown tables (3-4-5) take the 55 cushions....they still call them Brunswick super speed K66...but the profile of the super speed today are bigger cushions than back in the days of the monarch super speed K66.
The artemis cushion (intercontinental) is very close to the same profile as the brunswick super speed....the nose on the Artemis is bigger...and will set higher on the sub-rail....that's why the sub-rail will need recut..to bring the cushion nose down.
But you can put the Artemis on as is.....but the table will play slower....and want to trap the balls.
But if your not playing the US Open on the table....go for it.....but if you want the table to play perfectly.....ship the rails...I can use the money..LOL
Or call me and I help the best I can on the phone.
