Matchroom just announced that they sold one third of the seats for the next Mosconi Cup on the first day of sales. That's 1000 of 3000 seats for an event that is a year away.

As for the weather, I think Jay is overstating his case. I would much rather been in London that time of year than in southern Indiana. If you are not into being a tourist and sightseeing and things like that, then maybe it is better for you to stay home. For me, life is about having experiences and I think the MC in London is an experience that a pool fan should plan to have at least once.

As for the cost of the hotels, I just reserved a three-bedroom house for five nights. It is within walking distance of Alexandra Palace but I would take the bus up the hill. The total cost is $1329 including tax and cleaning fee. It also has sofa beds in two other rooms. I may be looking for roommates.;) If you are interested, I'll point you at lots of pictures on Booking.com.

The house is a 16-minute bus ride from a snooker club that has also carom tables.

I need to start hanging out with you!

That is quite slow by English standards Bob. :) Tickets for Crucible (World Snooker Championship) usually sell out in minutes. The venue is a bit smaller, though (just over 900 seats)

Or you can come to the Philippines. Temps will be around 75 and a nice hotel WITH a roomate/tourguide will set u back about $100. Bring your cue...Efrens usually around.

I'm heading that way soon. But won't be staying in Manila! My wife and I have a home in Pampanga, about fifty miles north of there, by the old Clark AFB. It's a lot easier to get around and things there are geared for foreigners. Seems like everybody plays in a pool league too. That's the second favorite sport around there.

My tickets are already purchased for next year's Mosconi. Hope to see some of the AZB crowd there.

I see from a Matchroom press release that Alex Lely has been chosen as the European team's coach.

Been to London many times, including the MC twice never even saw snow there.
Yes, it does snow on occasion and it can be chilly but you make it sound like Toronto ;-)

Jay Helfert has been living a sheltered life in California...he’s originally from Dayton, Ohio
...you gotta go up to the Scottish Highlands to see winters like that.

I’ve been to the UK many times...never seen a winter like the ones Jay and I had growing up.

Just two hours away, on the Channel, many buildings have outside plumbing pipes...
...because it never freezes.

Usually I read the whole thread before posting....:(

-31C (-24F) here today. London is tropical in December.

Have a pint for me and scream something at some time during the match. I'll be watching online beside a fireplace.

Been there, done that, twice. Best deal I could find on airfare was just over $1,000 RT (eleven hour flight from L.A.). Add in another $1,000+ for the hotel and add $500 for local transportation (taxis, airport shuttles) and food (New York prices) and bingo you've spent $2,500.

It was cold and dreary both times I was there. And traffic was horrible. I preferred to walk in the neighborhood around York Hall to see the local sights. The Childrens Museum was the highlight of my last trip there, a truly wonderful place. If I ever go back to London it won't be in the Winter. Same for New York.

Im with you -the food is expensive, not to mention unedible. 15 years ago a small load of laundry was at least $6 and drying half that approximately. I could be off on the price either way but at the time it was outrageous.

Now Cardiff in the summer time is the best-In 2003 decent hotels $61, tons of cheap food, wonderful pastries and most of the hotels did not have A/C as it rarely got above 74.

I see from a Matchroom press release that Alex Lely has been chosen as the European team's coach.

This is a great choice. Alex checks all the boxes, having played in the Mosconi Cup, having coached Team Netherlands, being an all-around scholar of the game, and always exhibiting professionalism. Team Europe will be in very good hands.

Congratulations to my friend on his appointment. I've known Alex since the 1990's and always enjoy catching up with him.

Karl Boyes will be the vice captain....a good choice IMO
