Burl wood with voids

Have some Madrone burl that's pretty heavy and stable. Weighs in at 49 lbs per square foot.

But it has some little voids in it from. Micro cracks mostly near the eyes. At this time it's very dry. I also have some other types of burl like this.

Is there tricks and techniques for filling this and making it look decent or should I just chuck it all? Thinking of it on a cored handle.

Will stabilizing fix it? Other ideas?

Thanks

Will stabilization fill in those holes?

Stabilization is not going to completely fill all those holes but you should send it out to be stabilized. It doesn't matter whether you are coring or not. You can fill whatever holes cavities etc after. You can mix epoxy with some of the dust or colored the epoxy.

After stabilization, you will need black epoxy.
If you don't like black epoxy, turn that thing and save the fine dust.
Mix the fine dust with the thin epoxy. Please do not even think 5-minute epoxy.
Lay out a coat on those voids so the thin coat wicks in.
Then apply the epoxy with the thin dust. Ketchup thickness would be good.

The epoxy does not have to be black you can make it just about any color you need..light brown :)
