Mosconi ran over 526 several times. Here is an interview with Charlie Ursitti where he witnessed Mosconi run 589 at 66 years old. This is a great interview and all players should listen to the whole interview to show how great Mosconi was with old slow nap cloth not fast Simonis cloth, cleaning the balls after any of the runs started and certainly not any special low deflection shafts and without any angles or special things done to any of the tables he played on.

Arthur Babe Cranfield
768 in practice

Tom Parker
642 as told to Dick Leonard

Michael Eufemia
626

Also here is a list to show a few other high runs and there is an updated list out there that if anyone can find please post it.

I think a lot of AZers know that 526 is not the highest run......
..but it's the highest OFFICIAL run.

Mosconi's feat is THE recognized record and has been for quite some time. That is what it is all about. When someone else can better that in a way that is recognized then that will become the new record. I'd love to see someone duplicate the table conditions and see if any of today's players could break Mosconi's record.

My view, since there is apparently no quantitative standard for tables or conditions for records, is that Masconi's brilliant performance is a singularity; it can't be 'broken,' because the conditions cannot be duplicated.

I think it would be a good idea for some sanctioning organization, like the BCA, to come up with a table specification and conditions for an "official" record.

This has been the way it is in competitive shooting, for example, for a hundred years or so. Unfortunately the world of billiards hasn't come to this.

Does Schmidt’s 434 being recorded on video make it the 4th highest “official” run or did the people who witnessed it in person have to sign an affidavit for it to count?

No, it's the highest recognized exhibition run on any size of pool table.

I believe the John's run of 434 is the highest exhibition run on a 4.5x9.

And the exhibition run on a 4.5x9 that Eufemia claimed and which was rejected by the Records Committee was 625. It is somewhere between sad and unfortunate that the OP got that number wrong. Evidently he has not bothered to read the other recent posts about record runs.

Cool list of the highest runs of all time.. makes me wonder, does Schmidt’s 434 being recorded on video make it the 4th highest “official” run or did the people who witnessed it in person have to sign an affidavit for it to count?
There are multiple errors in the list you cite above. The errors have been pointed out before. Some of the claims I find hard to believe and many of them have no supporting info. Date? Place? Circumstances? I think those things matter, and it's nice to have some kind of holy water sprinkled on "official" records.

Im sure Bob there could be a few errors like you say.The one error I know of is that Mosconi ran 589 on a 9Ft.in an Exhibition /Practice run with many people present(including Pete Margo & Charlie Ursitti) in 1979 at age 66 in NY I believe at the Waldorf Astoria. Charlie also said Willie ran a 609 in practice and then they went to dinner. Just keep in mind that Willie played on different tables everyday and not once was there ever a table built or catered to make it easier to make high runs.
Willie ran 100 or 150 everyday for years and if Willie continued all his 150 and out runs certainly he would have broke 800.Here is the proof of the 589 run.

Highest run

The man ran over 1200 and 1500 balls. He dominated the game in a way that could only be controlled by chancing the rules it was played by.
Ralph Greenleaf.

Who has claimed that Ralph Greenleaf ran those numbers? My information is that Greenleaf cared not for runs, when he finished whatever it took to win, he quit.

I actually took a lesson from Tom Parker at the old Buckeye Billiards on W. 117th in Cleveland back in the 80s.

Babe Cranfield actually had two different 700 ball runs, 768 and 709.

Mike Eufemia's run was 625, not 626 as indicated in the original post.

I agree that these were practice runs and should not count as the record.

So what's so different between "practice" and "exhibition" runs that makes one more valid than another...?

As long as the same rules are followed. ...and it's documented (aka: video'd) What's the diff...?

JS's 626 for example was started in a closed pool room prior to opening. So how is that an exhibition performance..? Did his buddies pay to watch him play before the doors opened...?
