Maybe...

I know a guy named Rob martin who shoots good. He would come in at the height you are talking. He may have switched cues as Mike Bender is popular up here and may still be playing in league pool and a couple of yearly tournaments.

The last time he beat my butt Rob was using an OB set up. I have not seen him in about three years.

Where did you meet up? For a whole bunch of reasons I have not made the Anchorage tournaments in the last three years. So there could be a Robert I am not aware of.

He just moved here to Colorado.
Played one pocket with him at Felt pool room.
He owns a bunch of companies.
Seems to be rather wealthy.

Why exactly did you come to the internet
to ask about this guy?
When you play new people your first
order of buisness is to go online and
publicly ask for a lowdown and talk about
his wealth?
Seems a bit strange to me.

I disagree
The azb
Has history
And many
Know a thing or 3
Which lets you see
If the new fishy
Is worthy

I mean, seriously. What are the odds two serial killers would show up at the same place same time and play pool together?

Isnt the golden rule not to hustle people strange
to you even if you do have a two piece custom made
pool cue?

Everything he told me seemed a bit odd.
And i'm a strange person anyway.
Just wondered if he was on the level.
But with all that said he was a nice guy and fun to play with.
And i came out 3 games ahead.

The pool hall does drag in some odd characters,
myself included.
Nice win. Stay safe.

It just seemed by reading the op I was missing something.

Most people with your level of experience wouldnt be
asking about somebody you just met publicly right
away so, my curiosity was getting the best of me.

what would you think that after just meeting someone they ran down the extent of their wealth to you?
i found that to be a little unusual.

But as long as he keeps giving me 8-6 I'm good.

Some guys like to brag. They spend all their time
building these buisnesses, its really all they got.
Most of the time they are full of more guano then
the batcave.

In either case it just comes off as par for the course.

Make em post.
Collect.
If they play for a bunch I dont leave alone and
make sure Im not followed.
I treat them well so they play again.

Funny you should say that.
When i was 16 or 17 I played pretty good straight pool.
Every wednesday night for quite awhile a family man named Harry would play me straight pool and he rarely won a game.
The old man that owned the room told me that Harry was my customer and to make him feel welcome.
Buy him a soda and a snack once in awhile.
Ask him about his family and get to know him.
Funnest part was that after awhile he asked me what i did for a living and i said I'm working right now playing you.
Then he offered me a day job working for him for what at that time was great money.
I took the job.
But i continued to play pool with him on wednesday nights, except now I didn't have to win to eat the next day.

Yes he did.
But at a time when the minimum wage was $1.00 an hour I was making $150 to $200 a week working for him.
We seal coated asphalt driveways. The goal was we knocked on doors and didn't quit until we grossed $150 for the day. Some days we did a lot more.
I got 20 %.
Paid in cash each day,no taxes.
This was in 1964 so it was really good money.
