Billiards Magazine was published from about 1913 to 1935. It mostly covered carom but it also had some articles each month on pocket billiards. This issue had a feature on "Cowboy" Charley Weston who played both.

Marcel Camp is a fairly well-known player from that era. I believe he was the "Masked Marvel" sometimes.

In his autobiography, Fats claimed to beat Cowboy Weston in an exhibition when he (Fats) was 13 years old. That would have been around 1926 by my math, a few years before this story was published. But Fats story about some sort of car parade for Weston is surprisingly similar to what's found in this article.

Weston was also one of the players featured in early tobacco cards:
