I took Exam I yesterday and Exam II today. I was on a 9' GC1 with 4 7/8" pockets, 4 1/8 the in the throat, 1 1/4" shelf. I scored a 53 on Exam I and also a 53 on Exam II for a total of 106. Lots of room for improvement. A lot of my weak areas were what I expected. Also, while this was the first time I completed the test all the way through I completed most of Exam I back in June and I definitely see improvement since then since I've been practicing.

Billiard University exam I and exam II

Here are my videos for the fundamentals (84 points) (I just upload it now)
and for the doctorate exam II (80 points)
Unfortenately I had to do them again as the first time my battery of my camera was done and once the camera just stopped....
So now here finally are two uncut videos of me for both exams!
I really like the tests, the way you have to do them and the way you keep score!
Imho the results are very exact regarding the playing ability of a player!
Did the test with several students of mine and they all liked it a lot!

Thanks Neil!
Yes they did a good job indeed!
May take the concept to Europe- depends on Dr. Dave and his co founders...
Way to improve for me on the wagon wheel drill in the fundamentals😳 and on keeping my concentration or getting along with distractions...
But all in all semi pro (164 pts) is ok for an instructor- ain't it

Hope you are doing well!

Really strong showing!

You did something irregular with the target placement at the end of the stun drill in test one and I'm not sure it didn't cost you a point. You left it at position 6 two shots in a row which should not happen. It should have moved one way or the other depending on whether you counted the previous shot as good or not. It's hard to do the drills and keep track of them too.

Nice job Ekkes! That's the 2nd best score posted to date! Are you going to attempt to take over Gerry Williams' top spot with more exam attempts? That would be fun to see.

Also, when you get a chance, please post some 10-ball ghost scores so I can add it to your line (see below).

Unfortunately I had to do them again as the first time my battery of my camera was done and once the camera just stopped....
That sucks, but practice makes perfect. :)

I'm glad you and your students like the BU Exams. I'm also glad you think the BU rating systems seems to be fairly accurate.

Best regards,
Dave

Hey Dave,

I use the V for the 30 degree rule from time to time in tournaments too when I have to be sure where the cue ball will travel. Most of the times spectators/opponents laugh about me...:) but in the end I keep on doing it as it helps me when I am not 100% sure...
A crowd of people watched me playing Ruslan Chinakhov from Russia (Junior world champion) on the Eurotour April 2011. I was leading 7:1 as he missed more balls than he used to but all of a sudden he ran 7 racks without any more misses and I was down 8:7 like 10 minutes later... I managed to get to the hill too and I used my fingers to see the path of the cue ball several times during the final game (8:8) and I managed to win the set 9:8. Everyone asked me what I did...

Big R E S P E C T for Gerry!
His BU score of 168 is the one to beat!!! He has done an outstanding job!
Will not be easy to get him... but I think I'll try :)

What camera type is everyone using to make their exam video's ?

i-Phone camera ?
or Proper digital camcorders ?

I cant seem to find a good way to mount / point the i-phone to get a good view of the table for recording plus the contrast / light levels are up sh!t creek for me. (maybe my table lights dont help - they are mounted quite low by pool table standards & they are compact fluoro bulbs)

Any thoughts / suggestions ?

edit: I'm not even sure I will be able to record for long enough on the phone to film the entire exam - I dont have a memory card in the i-phone.

Cheers.

I've also had people mock me for using my peace sign; but when they see how effective it is, they tend to not mock as much. In fact, some people who have mocked me in the past now use it themselves.

Regards,
Dave

Agreed. Gerry's score is very strong. But I'm sure you can top it. I look forward to seeing how high of a score you can post.

Good luck,
Dave

A camcorder on a tripod (or wall or ceiling mount) is definitely the best way to go. They aren't that expensive and they are a good investment for training and other purposes.

Happy filming,
Dave

The latest updated list is below. Please keep the scores coming. I wish everybody on AZB would try the BU Exams, but I know that is asking a lot. The practice is certainly worth the time and is potentially helpful to your game.

Good luck with the practice and exam runs,
Dave

Hmm - I already do have an old camcorder - 7 years old - (but no tripod)- but I dont think its digital - it deffo uses 'tapes' - but I've got a feeling its recording in analogue on the tape not digital - not sure that would make any difference in this case anyway. Whatever the tape signal is - how to easily get the stream onto the PC ?

Not exactly quick & easy to convert & get a 'tape' video recording posted on youtube ?

Buying a new digital camcorder & tripod would deffo be easy, but not cost free ;-p
Thanx
Cheers.
edit: filming on 'tape' & playing back thru the TV - record the TV playback on i-phone video ? (point the phone at the TV while its playing back & record) (LOL - The quality would prolly be pretty poor ?)

Hello
As promised, i took up the fundamental exam recently and my result is 39/100. Screwed up too much in the first 3 drills and did not want to start from the beginning to assure fairness. About 50 points is what corresponds to my current skill level, unfortunately.

Table 9 footer, tight pockets.

Things I would change: cushion contact in stop drills shouldn't be allowed.

Overall a great job on the exams, keep up good work.
