I felt sorry for Mitch today - 10-25-2019, 08:01 PM

I watched this video and felt genuine sadness for Mitch McConnell being snubbed for a handshake at the Cummings memorial service.
Lots of comments from people of how they thought it was funny....it just felt wrong to me.
Has Mitch earned loathing from the Left? Absofukinglutley!!! but in this instance, I feel like the high road was in order.

Maybe its me????

From what I have been learning about Chairman Elijah Cummings' character, I believe he would have shaken McConnell's hand in any other similar situation in his life. McConnell came to show his respects. Honoring what Cummings would have thought right in that situation would have been best.

I also know about the raw emotions of funerals, and think some slack should be given to what those bereaved close to the person chose, in such small things.

I agree...it just hit me right in the soul when I saw Mitch's face and his body language after the guy walked past him.
Mitch became quite human to me at that moment and not the guy who has earned a LOT of scorn from the Left.
I wonder if he had a 2nd chance, would the guy shake Mitch's hand instead of walking right past him?
I want to think he would

Politics injects a lot of hate into people's hearts.

And nothing ever changes. Both sides keep robbing "We, The People" blind.... You'd think their shared thievery would give both sides something to come together over.

My response was to the idiots on TYT (The Young Turks).

Although it does not surprise me considering their politics and methods.

That was a good example of outright racism right there. Then the smirk of Schumer say's it all.

I am not sure what that is all about. He shook McCarthy's hand, so why snub McConnel??? Yes he should not have disrespected Mitch, especially since he is somewhat representing Cummings and the family, and he should honor what Cummings would have wanted. SMH. I don't really care that the dude may have been grieving or not. Classless behavior should not be excused when exhibiting class otherwise may be hard or inconvenient."

Possible rejoinders. The pallbearers don't exactly represent the family (the family does). And McCarthy was a House colleague of Cummings, whereas McConnell, in the Senate, was not, in the same way.

What really did happen may not be entirely clear from the video, anyway. I didn't pick up on it, but after McConnell it was Speaker Pelosi. The man clearly skipped McConnell to greet the Speaker, but what happened after then? The video is short and incomplete.

Quote:
Video of a sour-faced Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell apparently being snubbed for a handshake at a memorial for late Maryland Congressman Elijah Cummings has gone viral, but a longer look at the video casts doubt on the completeness of the snub.

One moment from that memorial has gone viral, as a man who has been identified as Bobby Rankin — one of the pallbearers for Rep. Cummings’ funeral — hugs or shakes hands with several lawmakers, but appears to snub McConnell.

The video — tweeted by a user named Moni jay with the username @akajd31 — has racked up nearly 2 million views on Twitter.

Moni jay
@akajd31
I think this brother right here walked right past McConnell and did NOT shake his hand!!! Wow! @DrJasonJohnson @Bakari_Sellers @angela_rye @CNN @rolandsmartin

But a longer look at the video leaves open the possibility that Mr. Rankin did acknowledge Mr. McConnell in some way. After Rankin hugs Rep. James Clyburn shakes hands with Reps. Steny Hoyer and Kevin McCarthy, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, he skips over McConnell to shake hands with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

The camera then changes angles, and after Rankin is finished talking to Pelosi, he turns back in McConnell’s direction. His hands can’t be seen, but it’s possible he gave McConnell a quick handshake then, and then appears to give a thumbs-up to someone behind McConnell before moving on.

A few seconds later, Speaker Pelosi can be seen explaining something to McConnell.
Skipping McConnell but then turning back to him is obviously very different from a flat out snub, and nobody complains why he embraced one in the line and not the others, because that is a personal matter nobody questions. Drawing damning conclusions about people from incomplete and limited video is a divisive trap we all fall into, despite knowing that has been misleading in other cases, as with Nicholas Sandmann, for example.

Let's not rush to judgment so much, whatever it is that happened (especially considering we really do not know at this point).

Honestly it didn’t look like an intentional snub to me. His handshakes got shorter and shorter and then he skipped McConnell almost absent-mindedly. I would not be surprised if he realized his error and came back.

The fact that Mitch showed up for his sell out losers funeral tells you something. I could never do it, ever. Had a chance to meet Mayor Daley at a party and refused. He got his big payout when he sold the parking meters to a foreign company and then immediately went to work for the law firm that brokered the deal when he left office.

He so badly wrecked Chicago there was nothing to say to him. Yep, I was upset a dem wrecked a democratic town. Be nice if someone on the left gave a shit.
