Over the years, you have posted about APA problems on several occasions.

My ONLY suggestion is to QUIT THE APA and that nonsense ASAP.

The whole APA system is a bunch of bullshit, if you ask me.

I agree!!!!!!

That time could be spent working on his game instead of the BS.

Garczar doesnt like APA? Really? I dont think I've heard him say that before!

Lorider, you really didnt think you would get a response other then APA bashing ,did you?
You might have just had a perfect storm.... situations that all popped up in one night. Talk to them and point out that if they would rather be elsewhere on league night, then quit.

You have a good point.

Me personally, I hate to play anything team oriented. I've always looked at pool as a 1-on-1 sport.

I do have a couple friends that play in a master's league. They say they love it eventhough, they complain nonstop.

Having said that, I have entertained the idea of joining a 14.1 and AR league.

I can't even watch it.

I only play on Sundays, from 6 AM until 2 PM. The APA then comes in then and usually take over all the tables.

I, sometimes, sit and watch for a little bit, while I talk to a few people I know, but I can't take much of it before it starts getting on my nerves.

only made one night with apa league. crappy, nasty bar, beginner players, sitting on a nasty bar stool waiting and waiting to finnally play. never again will i play apa.
Recently I've only played in leagues where I'm in a match 80%+ of the time.

I did play many years ago in a bar league where I got to play two games of eight ball per night. I wonder now why I did. I guess it was the only game in town.

Haven't played leagues in a long team. But I feel your pain. Honestly any activity involving people, people management, etc. ESPECIALLY when it's on FUN STUFF isn't worth it anymore to me.

I play to play, not manage.

Two things an old Karate Instructor told me. The latter most appropriate to you:

1. You're not faster than a bullet
2. The best defense is not to be there. :rotflmao1:

This might turn in to a long post so kindly back out now if they are not your cup of tea.

I went to league last night and had 5 out of 7 players show up. One guy is on national guard duty for the whole month and props to him for the job he does for our country.

One girl is out sick...so i heard.

Some of you may have heard about the new scoring app apa has initiated and we have been doing 8 ball for several weeks....we are also continuing with the scoresheet at the same time. No big deal as the app is easy to use. Well we also.started using the 9 ball app for the first time last night...along with the scoresheet. As with anything new the 9 ball app took a little while to get used too last night and you really have to stay on top of whats going on because you have to account for who makes what balls each rack. So you need to have a good view of the table and several times i had to check to see not only how many fell on a break but the number of each ball also.

I have to say that so far i am really digging the new apps but kind of a pain to be still keeping keep the scoresheets too at this time. The reason i am mentioning the apps in detail is because of what transpired during the match and having to deal with the scorekeeping at the end resulted in my blood pressure going ballistic.

Now to what set me off. During the second match i was playing 8 ball and a girl on my team who had played the first 9 ball match asked me when i had walked back to the table while my opponemt was racking the third rack if she could play 8 ball next so she could leave afterwards . i told her no that it would not be fIr to the other players for her to play and leave when the other 2 girls had not even played yet.

She winds up playing the fourth match and leaves without even telling me.so i start to throw another girl the 5 th match and find out she left without telling me so i had no one to play the 5 th 8 ball match.

So i am getting more pizzed by the minute. So i tell my last player to play 9 ball and we will forfeit the last 8 ball. The other team said to replay her 8 ball also that they didnt want a forfeit. So my player is going to play both at the same time. I tell my last remaining player that had already played both his matches to keep 8 ball and i would keep 9 ball.

He said he had to leave. Wtf ??? !!! I told him there was no way i could keep both. He said he had to go .i told him to get the fug out then.

So needless to say i had a time trying to keep.8 ball and 9 ball at the same time . done it before but keeping 8 ball app and scoresheet plus a new 9 ball app and scoresheet was a real pain in the ass. Thankfully both apps are really easy to use.

Now about the situation with my team..my thought process last night and still continuing at this moment is to kick those three players off my team. That aint gonna work since it will only leave 3 for the rest of this month until the boy gets back from national guard .

I have never had this situation before and last night could wind up a fluke thing. But i have a whole week to think about what to do about it. Maybe just give them a lecturr about team unity and the realization that things do come up but they all left me in a bad situation last night.

May just give them a warning that next time they leave early not to come back but right now i so wanna kick them all off.

I guess I do not really understand how APA works. You have 7 people on your team but only 5 of those 7 play on a given night?? What is the minimum amount of team members you must have to complete a match? In the 8 or 9 years I have shot in a league I missed 2 times this year due to illness but I let my team mates know a day or 2 before league night to find a sub. I also let them know that if they could not find a sub I would play. If people are going to commit to something they should at least be adult enough to show up when expected and not bow out before they are finished for the night. Thats just all plain common courtesy that one expects most adults to have.

For most of us not in or near a big city, this IS all we have. There isnt a 9 foot table within 25 miles of me. It is what it is. I make the best of it.

Great post and exactly my opinion also.

I realize that there is life outside of pool and things come up every now and then. I choose to play only double jeapordy where we play 5 matches of 8 ball and 5 matches of 9 ball the same night . i have been on teams that play only 8 or 9 and its no fun to sit there all night only to not have your name called.

You need at least a minimum of 5 players to field a team but its really not feasible to have just 5 because something will always comes up where some one cannot make it. The maximum you can have is 8 but i think 7 is the best because its much easier to manage it where every one plays at least once and all but 2 play twice. The next week i ensure the 2 that only played once play twice the following week.

The 2 girls who left early are new and probably have not acclimated to the routine and understand the concept of team commitment.... I guess..

The 3 rd player however has played apa longer than i have and should know what commitment to a team is. It really got me when i asked him to stay and help keep score and refused saying he had to go.. He is fully aware of what i was faced with in keeping score of 2 matches at the same time and evidently did not care about the hardship i was faced with ...especially using the new apa 9 ball app and keeping a scoresheet at the same time and doing the same with 8 ball match.

He is the one the one that really pizzed me off ...he is retired so its not like he had to get up early for work the next morning.

I didn't know apa had leagues where you play 8 and 9 ball the same night, unless it's a master's league. In my area they have different nights for 8 ball and 9 ball. I haven't played apa in 15+ years but I'm pretty sure it's still the same way.

For the past 5-6 years I played in an in-house UPA league and was a captain for the last 7-8 sessions. We had 6-8 players varying per session with 5 playing per week. Mind you it's only a 4 team league so we all played each other often. Many times I've had people who always needed to play 1st or 2nd to go home early to get to sleep for work or who had to go home to take care of their kids. As long as they told me at start of night I always tried to accommodate. I usually sat out most nights because if people showed up I felt bad that I played and they would have to sit out. The whole last session I was injured and missed the whole session as the team captain. We were all in a text group so I still knew what was going on and everything even though I wasn't ever there. It absolutely killed me not being able to go. Now I had to give up and take myself out of the league because I see no quick recovery. Since I'm no longer on a roster I can't log onto the leagues site and see everyone's record and sl report and I have that

Maybe his wife is a complete bi**h and she nagged him to leave? Lol. I laugh but as a captain, I've seen it happen.

Hate to read about your health problems and hope you recover soon..

Not sure how many leagues have went to this format but when tap and usapl were available here they also used the double jeapordy format. It makes it a lot easier to get every one playing that night when you have a total of 10 matches played. Every one will play at least one match and most will play 2 matches. Just rotate every week the ones that only play one match.

Yea i played the only one format for a while and like you i sat out more than anyone.

14.1 and AR-15's? That seems to have the potential for some real next level sharking!

Eh it is what it is. We have ppl that can't show up a lot. I'm there almost every week, which sucks if I'm working that day. My plan when I started playing league again was to not be there on days I worked because I get up at 4am, work from 6am till 6pm, rush home, put my contacts in and I'm usually at the hall ten minutes before league starts. By then I'm wiped out and if I do play I'm too tired to do well.

Unfortunately with ppl not showing up I go in every week.

Hey Hu! How's it going fella?

Hu, I actually thought about the AR-15 comment when I was writing that post. I guess great minds do think alike.

On a serious note, some folks started an AR league along with a 14.1 league in Huntsville, Alabama. It's a 3 hour drive round-trip for me but, if the competition is stiff enough it would be well worth it.

Hey buddy, to shark me all they got to do is bump my walker.

I've been eyeballing my table for a couple days. All along, I was thinking, "maybe I could hit one or two balls if I don't bend at all".. I get my walker, make it to the table and end up just hobbling around my table for about 3 minutes struggling to get the cover off. I eventually decided it was a stupid idea and gave up.

Hope everything is good with you Hu.

Drop me a PM sometimes buddy.

Jeff
