When I play on Gold Crowns, I usually wear an apron since otherwise the aluminum strip on the rail gives me a wide soil mark on my lead leg pants' thigh area, like Christopher Walken's character had in Pool Hall Junkies.

This is more an old school practice dating to when people wore slacks to play, and most people don't get it. My league opponents kid me if I don't have it on (hey, where's your apron???!!?), and then ask me to take their drink orders when I wear it. At CueMasters at the US Open just passed my waitress asked what I was doing wearing the apron.

It's lonely but someone's got to do it, and my laundry thanks me if no one else.

Last night at my usual Tuesday night game, I looked around and there were four other players wearing aprons, a first. Three basic black (always appropriate!), one khaki/green, and one blue. I kidded the guy in blue about how ridiculous it was to wear an apron, and he was about to be upset until he looked and saw I had one on and the three other guys as well and he cracked up laughing.

Theory: it's making a comeback, or we're all just old guys. (The last is definitely true, as all were my age or older.)

Any apron sightings in your area? Want to come out of the shadows and admit you do it also?

I saw a guy wearing one on a stream once a few years ago. Never saw anyone wearing one in person. I think I'd rather just use extra detergent or take my pants to the dry cleaner.

Yup, played a bunch of guys in my youth who wore aprons. Aprons are not "old school," they are "ancient school."

Last guy I remember wearing one in the New York City area was Tom Walter, who finished 6th in the World Straight Pool Championships in 1981, including a win over Joe Balsis.

100 years ago in High Cue in Elizabeth NJ all the old timers wore a Apron and played very very good .As a young kid I thought they were all Pros I said when I become a pro I will have one of those !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still waiting LMAO

Wtf? I cracked up reading this! I've never ever heard of people wearing aprons to play pool. What and where is the aluminium strip on the table? This just might be what gets my girlfriend to play pool. Once she finishes up in the kitchen she can use the very same apron to play pool. Genius!

...I kid, she doesn't do anything in the kitchen...she makes me do it :(

I played a few times at Hi Cue in the 70's. I remember the aprons. Thanks for the memories!!!

I remember at the old Golden Cue when i went with my pop, must have been about 73 or something like that, there were two old guys wearing them playing on the front table and they had the green visors on also. We looked for like 5 seconds and my pop started laughing and said something like "Look at them , miss, miss, theyre wearing all that shit and they cant make a ball".
I wear one at work and they do stop the table from eating up your pants, but to wear one in the pool room ? Forget about it ! lol

Last time I bought mine from Home Depot. Other hardware stores such as Freight Harbor or Lowes should carry something similar.

The apron comes in very handy if you're recording yourself, as place to put the remote, mic and chalk.

If you know any dealers in any casinos, they could probably get you one or you could go to one of the gambling supply places as im sure they sell them.
Google in dealers aprons, that should get you something .

Back in 2011, I bought a denim pool apron from Jay Helfert on AZ. It has a center front pocket and two side pockets and the waist is adjustable with a clip that fastens. It dark blue denim and it looks so cool in that material and the back of the apron is completely lined with excellent sewing and all three front pockets are also lined.

It's amazingly well crafted and was pretty inexpensive @ $30 which included shipping. It was well worth the money, especially when you play in tournaments on different tables and these tables aren't as clean late in the day after dirt, chalk, powder, natural hand oil, food grease becomes gradually deposited on the table, rails and runners. The apron eliminates all concern whatsoever and you're assured of keeping your clothes clean,

And I think it's a bit of the old school of pool. Back in the early 60's extending into the 70's, pool aprons were not at all uncommon in pool halls on the old timers that played back then. I played against some of these fellows as a teenager and I thought the apron looked really cool.........and now it's come full circle and I'm the one wearing the apron and the younger players look at me...........amazing how that goes.

I used to play a guy that wore one. He was always dressed very well and always wore slacks. He asked me if I wanted one and I said yes. I don't use it because I'm more of shorts/blue jeans and Tshirt kind of guy, but still carry it in my bag. This was maybe 4 years ago.

I remember when I was a kid all the older guys in the hall wore them, but they all wore slacks, collar shirt, and leather shoes. Of course back then all you heard in the hall was the clicking of balls and an occasional comment. No loud music, no loud drunks, no video machines, just clicking.

just has this issue come up in the last month as I have started playing at a different place during the week and was coming home with this aluminum colored mark across my jeans. the tables are not Brunswick though......just yesterday after 4 hours of practice & play, go there with clean jeans and return with the mark across my jeans.....thought about an apron but did not know about showing up with one...:eek:
maybe have some made with "hustler", "eight baller" or something appropriate and I might wear one.

I was only at hardtimes only once and there was a couple guys wearing them. I had never seen or heard of them before. I was thinking these two were not the kind you would like to match up with for the $$.
