Pro Play Wooden Triangles

I went to college Summer of 67, from the burbs of Chicago. Every town, every pool room, every bar had Wooden triangles.

Over the years there were a few makers of triangles, but the Woodworks Brand triangles, from TX were the real deal, Vivian knows the man, I had em before for one of my rooms.

The tongue/groove wood quality, the spacing for the rackers fingers, and the noise that came off the balls as you pushed em up/back at the spot area ''talked'' pool.

I personally think every pro event with referee/rackers for each table should use WOOD. It brings back the sounds of the game....to the game and especially to the tv production.

PLUS THERE IS NO PLASTIC SITTING ON THE TABLE EFFECTING PLAY............EVER

I agree. Dan Tull at Shooter's used to make really sweet wooden racks. Not sure if he does anymore or not.

Actually he did have Woodworks wooden racks, he got second generation ones during the McChesney years.

I have 0 problem with templates, but plastic triangles are worse for pool than casinos, video games and direct deposit paychecks, combined!

The Diamond composite racks are really nice but ALL other plastic racks suck big-time.

Building another Triangle is like building a better Mouse Trap, if. Your a great salesman you migh sell a lot of both.

Why reinvent something that already work well?

The guy who invented the Pro-Just-Abridge did invent something new, different, and the think does work. But like any tool it take time to masters. Works better if you invest time in learning how to use the thing.

One year the old Open used the Delta metal racks, and boy what a racket they caused. Ting ting ting, going on constantly. Too much noise for my taste, and they switched by the following year.

The sounds of a Good wooden rack is as good a sound as a ball off the tee.

I have one, the old tongue and groove, solid oak, has the
metal slides on the bottom.. the nuts.

But I play at places that have those cheap plastic racks,
POS can't get a tight rack, the whole triangle flexing..
those don't have any place in a serious pool hall.

My Delta 13 sound does not bother me but then again I am not one of these people that shoves the rack back and forth 45 times over the racking area after they have the rack loaded. Im not sure what people accomplish by doing that. I love the Diamond wood rack that (used to?) come with the tables but what I am curious about is how do you keep the head ball from sticking to the rack in warm, humid weather? In the summer on many nights you can see the head ball stick to the triangle and pull the head ball forward when removing the rack.

I couldn't agree more with your comments on wooden racks. I bought a nice wooden rack from a local guy named Bill Westley at the super billiard expo a few years ago. His racks are a little pricey but worth every penny in my opinion. They give a super tight rack every time and are truly a work of art.

I like the Diamond brand. Offered in several different hardwoods and the center notch is a nice touch.

I agree, but they are Too Heavy for 2 reasons....they put a wear sheen in the racking area quickly, and if one drops it can cut the cloth. Too much wood.

Has anyone noticed, the Diamond wooden racks are not perfect triangles. Apparently designed that way to allow for variations in ball size (?). I had to mark mine so position is easily repeated. Love the finger groove, but hate the increased size/weight.
