Micarta?

I came across a fella who had multiple 5’ rods of this material. He called it micarta, but it does not look anything like the ferrule material I have seen. I have attached photos in hopes that someone could tell me what it is.

Looks like linen phenolic.
Technically it is still ok to call it micarta.

That can be band sawed and you can get a lot break ferrule stock from it.
But, they are so cheap these days, it's not worth the effort imo.

And that sucker would dull bandsaw blades FAST.

It is not the expensive "asbestos" micarta kind .
I wouldn't even work with that material at that size.

Though I am not a Cue-maker, Micarta is a very broad term. Some were/are paper based, some linen based, etc, etc.

Cue components

Thank you for all the info. So this material is best used for break ferrules and not other pool cue components (I.e. butt caps, joints)?

We prefer the tube or rod that are rolled.
Turned from flat sheet has two sides that aren't too pretty .

Besides the fact that it takes a lot of labor to cut that and turn round.
