i think the derby needs to come back to ky or they need to rename it.
its just not the derby city classic if its not in the derby city.
i also dont like the limits the new venue places on people attending.
your options for food limited ect ect.....the TAR room was some real bunk this year.
blah maybe im just cranky but t seems iv way fonder memorys of DDC's gone by. its lost its magic for the spectator.

Just like you can't capture the allure of the Johnston City days, gone too are the EW Derby City days.

I think it would be awesome if the derby moved around to different Harrahs properties!

First stop should be their detriot property called Motor City! Its mid country so travel is not bad. Plus, strong pool support and possibly Very high turn outs.

Plus, Mars would not have to go very far and could really rally local support. Plus, dippy is close and a ton of others!!!!

I don't think it will ever leave the Louisville area. You cant forget the Diamond factory is only a few miles away making table transport/setup very cheap. Also a good portion of the DCC staff are Diamond employees who live in the area.

For what it's worth, Greg was very open about the situation with the Executive West here on AZ when he needed to make the changes.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=104615

This is just one of the many threads he posted during that time.

I would disagree with the comments on the food options compared to the Executive West. lol The layout of the Executive West was pretty darn good. I would agree with that, but I do not miss the smell of the unventilated bathroom next to the entrance of the main tournament room.

If someone could seriously come up with better, more affordable location that meets all of the DCC needs, I'm sure it would be considered if it hasn't already. It's not as simple as it sounds. Pool tables take up a lot of space.

It's a very cool event though regardless. Although I too have a little nostalgia for the Old Executive West in spite of it's flaws, I had a great time at the Horseshoe this year and look forward to attending again, wherever it may be. :)

you dont have the kentucky derby in texas.
you dont have mardi gras in canada
you should not have the DCC (DERBY CITY) in indy.
if they dont move it it should have a name change to the diamond horse shoe open. thats just how i feel.
i know the EW is not an option no more. but some were some how in all of kentucky there has to be a place you can fit it.
some place with some fast food joints around and closer off site lodging.(cuz sleepin at the horse shoe aint cheep)

I agree, with this gentleman's opnion. If it is the Derby City Classic it should be in Louisville, KY. If not change the name. I really don't care for the Horseshoe Casino period, it in the midlle of no where??????????

I think the name thing is being a little nit-picky. I mean, the Horseshoe is just across the river from KY. If you have to be that literal on the name, you'd might as well change the names of a number of professional teams (NFL, NBA) as well. A number of stadiums and ballfields are not EXACTLY in the city that carries the team name.

I can understand that some miss the old venue, but the name thing is kind of going out on a limb....BUT IT'S IN INDIANA!! If it were on the other side of the river in KY, and still in the middle of nowhere, most all of the problems would be mentioned just as they are now. Don't change the name. The name is not part of ANY problem.

Personally, I don't mind the new venue. Is it perfect? NOPE. Would ANY venue be? NOPE. Would I like more options of closer places to go and eat, etc. OH YEAH. But, I did leave the property a couple of times anyway. It's really not that big of a P.I.T.A. Seems some like to complain about anything....I enjoyed the tourney this year.

Would love to see it move back to KY, The horseshoe sucks in every since of the word, location, food, atmosphere & quality are all inferior .:(

but..... that's what people used to say about the EW :D

I'm pretty sure they have at least one more year in their agreement with the Horseshoe -- 2012 -- so we'll be back there next year.

I don't like the new spot either. I think the casino takes away from players matching up. There is a place in northern KY called the Drawbridge Inn that would be great for the Derby. Great places to eat, casino 20 minutes away for those that have to and plenty of room. Not the Derby City, but in KY.

to me its kinda like moving the running of the bulls from spain to canada lol.

You do realize that Spain is in Europe and Canada is in North America, right? I don't think the Ohio River is quite the size of the Atlantic Ocean....sheesh. The Horseshoe is no more than 10-15 minutes from Louisville....that's closer than a lot of other suburbs on the KY side, but because it happens to be on the other side of a river, it's like it's on a different continent!! lol

We get it, you don't like it at the Horseshoe. The fact that it is played in a SUBURB of Louisville isn't really the problem for you. It has to be something else. Is it in a state other than KY? YES, but come on, it's not 4 states away or something....it is one BRIDGE away.

One thing not often mentioned about the Horseshoe, there were some occasional lapses in security there. That doesn't seem to be an issue at the Horseshoe. There are also more and better choices of food at the Horseshoe than at the EW (except late night of course -- not much different then).

One thing is for sure. They did not make an effort to improve on the internet connection. The live feeds were very hard to do again !

I agree the food is better than EW but you have to be a millionaire to eat there for nine days, at least at the EW you could walk across the street to get some fast food. The bottom line the Derby is not what it used to be and it won't as long as it's held at the Horseshoe period.

so mardi gras in ohio makes sence? oh or how about the webn fireworks on the missippi?
the point i was making is it two diff places. over stated yes. to me its just not the derby if it and in ky.

the horseshoe is so cut off that you have to trec to get outside food or sleeping places. they feel free to price gouge based on this two.
i also love me some paula dean but that gets old after two days.

the new derby is a shade of what it was. for us to be told no place in ky can hoast the event is a bold faced lie.

i guess i just feel like those people in a city when there pro team leaves for a diff state. for me its like the KY derby being ran in texas.
