My Dad's Double Bfly cue.
Katz or Brunswick, not certain.
Purpleheart & i think Mahogany .
Carved his initals KH in it.
He said they would just leave in the rack at the poolhall.
Cant do that nowadays
He bought in 1951 for his 15th birthday for $15 new
Gave it to me back when i was in high school, early 70's.
And i proceeded to break the joint somehow.
Held onto it , many years later, early 1990's maybe, sent to Dan Trogden to repair.
So here it sits in the rack doing nothing for all these years.
Contemplated many times of converting it. Just never got around to it or couldn't because it was Dad's cue.

Finally got around to it,
will be a Christmas gift for my son Tommy

That's as cool as it gets. I had one of the same make of butterfly cues with this joint, nice old player.

Congratulations on the coolest heirloom in the gallery!

one thing i found when i tore into it,
that i never noticed in the 40+ years i've had my hands on this cue,
one of the maple veneers on one side of the splice is thicker than the other side,
therefore the outer purpleheart bfly can never be even with the other side.

the thicker the veneer, the longer the bfly will be

i did cheat on it a little scraping & sanding it back, after the 2nd pic was taken

You just CANNOT beat old wood. Beautiful work. I did a butterfly conversion for my wife with a cork wrap and it hits fantastic. Unfortunately, she can barely spell pool much less play pool...but hey, you do what you gotta do.
