It's a frigid 4 degrees outside in Verona, NY, but it's heating up inside at the Turning Stone Joss Tour semifinals, beginning at 12 noon. Eight men left in a double elimination event, with an extended race to 13 in the finals.

Winner's Side:
Shane Van Boening (USA) v. Petri Makkonen (Finland)
Tommy Tokoph (USA) v. Jeremy Sossei (USA)

One Loss Side:
Zion Zvi (Israel) v. Jayson Shaw (Scotland)
Denis Grabe (Estonia) v. Danny Hewitt (Canada)

The 35-year-old has reached one-name status. You only have to say "Shane" to know who we're talking about. The South Dakota kid hails from Rapid City, South Dakota in USA, and he is America's sweetheart in the pool world. Every champion goes through a streak of greatness, some longer than others, but Shane seems to still be at the top of his game. Shane has won the Turning Stone four times now!

Petri Makkonen has represented Finland many times, sometimes partners with Hall of Famer Mika Immonen. The 30-year-old is quite handsome, with his blue eyes and blond hair, and he's a man on a mission this weekend for the almighty win. Photo by JP Parmentier.

Tommy Tokoph has been playing pool since he was 14—professionally, though, since he was 20. Whether tournaments and action matches, Tommy is no stranger to the winner's circle, having won the White Diamonds Super 9-Ball last year.

Jeremy Sossei hails from Connecticut and is fondly called "The Giant Killer" because he knows how to defeat the world beaters in any event he steps foot in. He's 39 years old and lives in Joss Tour country, and in fact, he's currently the Joss Tour points leader. I would not be surprised to see Jeremy win today. Photo by JP Palmentier.

Everybody loves Zion the Lion, and he always rises to the top. Charismatic and colorful, but on a field of tournament blue, he is fierce and competitive. Zion Zvi is 40 years old and has the fire power to receive this championship title.

Is the 30-year-old Scot in beast mode this weekend? Nobody likes facing Jayson Shaw on the other side of the table. He's comfy and feels no pressure when he's in competition. He has several Joss Tour Turning Stone tournament wins, and I'm sure he's hoping to get more wins to add to his impressive pool portfolio.

Canadian Danny Hewitt has knocked down some strong players to get to the semifinals: Alex Kazakis from Greece, Frankie Hernandez from Queens, German Thorsten Hohmann, and Dennis Hatch. The no-nonsense player gives 100 percent each and every time. He's an unassuming-type personality off the table, but on the table, he's like a pit bull with a bone.

Here's a rare smile from the Canadian champion Danny Hewitt at the table.

Met Tommy T. on one of his Midwest trips. Really a good guy who has definitely put in the time needed to get to his level. Dude is a bulldog and hope he snaps this off. Tuff road for sure but what the hell, somebody's gotta step up. Great bios and pics.

Shane versus Petri about to kick off! Watched Petri play last night and beat Shaw - this should be a great match to start the final day off with.
