as i stated in my last post i thought about playing in the 9 ball top gun sunday. i was lazing around the house all morning debating whether to go or not. well the g/f got in a cranky mood dealing with her teenagers drama so it gave me the incentive to get off my ass and get outa the house so i decided to go.

well the 1st match kinda went the norm where i start off slow. played decent but lost 38-30.

i kept a positive attitude and just told my self to win the losers side. play more matches and stay in stroke.:grin-square:

2nd match vs a 5 and won 38-28.

3rd match vs a5 and won 38-32.

4th match vs a 5 and won 38-26.

5th match...lo and behold ..i face the 4 who knocked me out of the 8 ball top gun saturday. he walks up to the table grinning ear to ear and says ..we meet again. i said..i wonder if you gonna be as lucky as you were yesterday..grinning ear to ear.

funny how your mind works...i won the lag and played like i did last year atvegas nationals. i happen to look at the score sheet after the 3rd rack and i am up 25-5. i said damn and i happened to lose focus for a lil bit the 4th rack but i still won 38-12.

as soon as the match was over a woman came up to me while i was signing my score sheet and said...you are playing my husband next. i said ok...and ? she said ..i am just letting you know. again i said ok .

well when the lo calls my name and tells me what table i go up and see this same woman had grabbed the score sheet and sat down at her table with it. i walked over and told her i would get a neutral score keeper. she said no...i will keep score. i again stated i would prefer a neutral score keeper and called over a player who i had beat earlier. this player picked up the score sheet off the table and the woman grabbed it out of his hands and said she would keep score.

against my better judgement and not wanting to cause a big scene i agreed to let her keep score. it was gnawing at the back of my mind...why was she so adamant about keeping score ? was she afraid some one would screw her old man or was she intent on screwing me ?

like i said earlier...funny how your mind works. i was more focused on her score keeping than i was my match and i lost. in hindsight i should have caused a big scene . i shoulda said...you aint keeping score ***** so get away from the table.:grin-square:

i blame myself for letting it get to me. that incident has never happened before and i can assure you ..it will not happen again.

After my 19-1 win, I found out that our team won 80-20 for the night! That stretched our first place lead by a huge amount. The second strongest team had a bye week, so we'll have to make sure we win big again on Wednesday.

Had a tough match yesterday in 8 ball against a 6 who has been shooting the best I have ever seen him shoot 5-3 hill/hill in 9 innings with 2 safeties...1 inning average. Pretty brutal.

Had a Bye last week.

This week, I'll be out of town for work... again. For some reason, when I have to leave town for work it always interferes with league.

Played well in 9b - I think I only scratched maybe 2 or 3 times off the break. Ended up with a 75-23 win over a 7. Next, I played a 5 in 8b that beat me the last time we matched up. My shooting fell off, but, lucky for me, she wasn't doing much better and I think I got that one 5-1. So looking forward to taking some time off.

as i have mentioned before i got roped into playing on 2 teams on tue nights. an apa travel and an in house money league. neither captain just did not want to take no for an answer so i usually rotate teams each week.

well tonight i got ambitious and drcided to play both tonight since the venues were only 15 minutes apart.

i went to apa 8 ball travel 1st. played the 1st match against a 5 i had never seen before. all i can say is he is a damn good 5. it went hill hill with me losing 4-3.

left there and hauled ass to my 8 ball money league.i played the last match and it was a 4-2 race with me going to 2. 1st rack turned into a safety battle with me winning on a 4 ball run after he scratched. 2nd rack i had a break and run. winning the match 2-0.

i think playing all day saturday and sunday in the top gun tournaments got me in stroke a lil bit. only thing is ...this 60 year old body cant take too many of those days.

since every one has slacked up sharing their league exploits i am starting to think i am writing a blog here.:D

tonight laggers choice napa league.

i lost the lag . the race matrix was

8 ball 4-3...me 4

9 ball 3-4...me 3

10 ball was even at 4-4.

my opponent chose 9 ball and i won 3-2. as par for the course i got out of position a few times and he made me pay for it and won 2 racks.

My Tuesday VNEA league. I played really well and went into the last of my 5 games with 4 wins on the night. I was breaking well and already had a couple of almost outs where a slight missed position stopped me. In the last rack I break and make 2 balls and they're pretty wide open except for the 10 which is positioned close the 2 on the rail. The good news was that the cueball stopped right where I could shoot the 10. I thought I was out, but put too much follow on it and kissed off another ball and scratched. I couldn't regain my composure and missed 2 more balls and gave the game away. I hate doing that. That being said I felt it was a pretty good night against a team that is by far the most annoying to play against in the league. Despite the lineups being pre-set they are never ready to play, never know if it's their break or not, talk loudly the entire time when you're at the table. Good news is that we faded all of that and won 4 rounds to 2 and maintain our lead in our division.

The APA equalizer system makes no sense. I just got bumped to a SL6 after 19-1 against a SL5; that would make sense, but why now? I've beated and shut out plenty SL5's and SL6's in the past.

My first ever APA nine ball match was won 18-2 against a SL5 with two break and runs. I was bumped from a starting SL4 to SL5 and have been until now.

I've gone plenty of matches as a 9 without a single bnr. I've always wondered how I stayed a 9. Last week, I began to figure out a better break.. one that wouldn't lead to a scratch half the time. Then, later that night, I went to use it again.. and scratched. :(

APA 9 ball

Scratches and no shot after a made ball on the break are the kiss of death to high ranked players. I had a match against a 3 where I had 3 break and runs and 2 snaps nd they only needed one ball because I either couldnt keep whitey on the table or got covered up after the break.

I think I've only had a couple break and runs this session, but I've had plenty back to back games where my opponent didn't make a ball. Once I quit playing "APA 9-ball" and just worried about getting out (like Texas Express), my league game went way up.

Why I am just now getting bumped to a 6, when I played better my first session, is beyond me.

I was 11-5 as a SL5, my first session, 4-2 over the summer session, and now 4-1 as a SL6. That adds up to 27 total matches with 19 wins.
My lifetime 9-ball matches show 30 matches played with 20 wins... WTF

I attached a photo that I sent our LO and posted to their facebook page.

I got away with one in my 8-ball match on Tuesday. Played a buddy of mine, we match up fairly evenly, my opinion is that he is a better ball runner than me, I think I "play" better, meaning strategy, etc...

He won the lag, and he won the first three games (race to 4 for us). The first two of those games a barely showed up. All on me. My head clearly wasn't into it, for a number of reasons, none of them acceptable. I played a little better in the third game, but he still got the game and on the hill.

I won the fourth game, and as he was racking he says "so now you're gonna make this interesting, aren't you?" Sincerely, not busting my balls. I told him I hope so.

As he runs balls better than me, I break from the side in the old "8-ball break" style, it tends to leave a messier table, which is to my advantage vs him. I get the next two games, playing fairly well, not great but at least good enough.

Hill-hill game we both play decently, not as well as we can but a good game. I blink near the end and leave him a table length shot on the 8. One that he should make 9 out of 10 times. Guess this was the 10th time, cuz he missed, I get my last two and the 8 and sneak away with the victory.

Ever feel bad when winning? Me either :p but this was close. He is a buddy of mine, and we went off to have a beer and a laugh or two. I felt bad for him, cuz he takes it as seriously as I do, feeling bad when we screw up. Not for losing, but for not doing what we are supposed to do, and are capable of doing.

Not a proud win, but proud that I hung in long enough to survive.

Pretty sure playoff and tri-cup matches only show up in the lifetime matches section and not in your individual sessions area. So you would have been 1-2 in playoffs or tri-cup.

That's it! I won my playoff match and lost both tri-cup matches.

I got a phone call from the division rep, telling me he just got off the phone with the league operators. Apparently there were a bunch of complaints about me, so they voted and bumped me up. I don't mind being bumped up, I just don't think that is the way to do it.

Lets' talk about your League Operators. Are they hands on? attendant and available? easy to get a hold of and responsive? Fair? Visible at league matches and events occasionally? Nice people that you trust?
or are they mostly invisible bastards that don't care? are never available? unresponsive? people that you've never met and have only heard rumors that they actually exist and don't contribute to national qualifiers or prize funds? are they uninterested, unqualified people they only collect your money and nothing else? Do you think of them as the main reason that you would give up leagues all together?

Personally, after reading and hearing some of the stories from league players all around the country (and other countries) I think our LO here is a jewel. Attentive staff, available when needed otherwise silent but present, fair, generous, knowledgeable, not obnoxious or intrusive. I feel pretty fortunate to have the LO that we do. We haven't always seen eye to eye about things, but I've never felt cheated or talked down to. Our LO here has my respect and I've always felt like the feeling was mutual.

** I have no intention of trying to hijack this thread or anything like that. My thought is that who operates the league is paramount in how we're doing in league. They bear a huge responsibility as far as that. So please don't take this question that way.

i am one of the lucky ones also when it comes to having a great apa lo. dont get me wrong ..there are times i have not seen eye to eye with him but i will say in those instances i will have to admit he was fair and impartial. the old saying applies to every lo...you can please some of the people all the time...you can please all the people some of the time ...but you are never gonna please all the people all the time. they do have a thankless job.

my lo plays on a few teams...matter of fact i play on a team with him.as far as communication goes ..he always either answers immediately or gets back to me pretty quick every time i call or txt him when i have a question for him.

mynapa lo is a good friend of mine. we play on the same team in both napa and apa. although we are good friends and team mates he pissed me off once with a ruling over a match in napa ...it goes with the territory .:grin-square:
