how do other owners deal with the people who just come in and sit. sometimes all night long and day time for that matter. they don't spend a nickle. taking up space that sitting around like its the local corner. some family's come in and see this as trouble, even though it is not except for the verbiage that is used. But i can understand the way it may look to the casual pool player and family. any suggestions.

Not an owner, but have an opinion. If they are using language you don't approve of, or is bad for other customers who have younger players around, just inform them. Good reason to kick them out if they don't stop.

Do they bring their on food and beverages? Do you allow this? Cutting that out will increase your revenue. Otherwise, on slow days, having people watching the action makes the place look busier, and adds to the ambiance.

Simple- if they are in your room they are on time. These are exactly the people that will cause trouble because they have nothing invested. Your regular customers that spend money can hang around, but if you have this guy just sitting I would say "Hey Joe, you can't just hang around. You need to be on a table or have just left a table and then you can hang around for a few minutes. This is a business and not a club house so while you are here I expect you to spend money."

It was 1985 and a man named Tony Cattucci renovated an abandoned bowling alley in Toms River New Jersey.
He turned it into a great room with 36 Gold Crowns,a large video game room and a short order food kitchen. this was a huge building capable of holding several hundred people with ease.
It was a players room and a bangers room and a hook up place for the 18 to 25 crowd. There were lots of good looking young women in there every night.
So Tony who was known to be a little rough around the edges soon figured out who spent a little money on pool, food and sodas (no booze in NJ pool rooms) and who did not.
So one night he gos up to two young women that never spent a dime and says something like this" I see you here every night. You like my Place? Then spend .98 for a soda once in awhile" He wasn't looking for a home run but hell spend a buck or two.

Seriously? Your saying people come in, and spend $0 money ever......?

Are they pool players? Are they actual bums? Do they just love to watch the action?

I honestly would not say one thing to them, sometimes having people in a pool hall, if they drove attracts others to come in and stay. But if they are just being pains in the asses, then make them leave.

If they are not really any different than the pool players that play their, which we all know at times do and say things not to family oriented, it sounds more like a pet peave to me?

As long as they're not playing or anything, I don't see any harm. I've seen lots of guys come in with their girlfriends, say 2 guys who play while their 2 girlfriends watch. Sometimes I'm out running around with my wife, and if we have a couple of hours to kill, I'll stop at Fast Eddie's and shoot a little pool while she sits and watches. You want to walk up and hold a gun to her head because she's not buying something, fine, you'll lose a customer.

I call them airsuckers! They come in and suck air, they do not drink anything but the free water put out. I am actually stunned when they buy a soda. They sit on the sideline and critique players but they never play. I believe there should be a 1-2 drink minimum for hangarounds.

P.S. Good looking women are not subject to drink minimum, they should be given a drink on the house when they walk in. Girls attract boys and boys will spend money.
