cue extension advice

Tried mid extension years ago with my McDermott and you have to learn how to play with it as it adds a different balance point. Could never get used to it and stopped playing with it.
Switched to Predator a few years back and was buying 30-31" shafts. I loved using the longer shafts. Then Bought the Predator 8" extension and played with that when it was first available from Europe. 8" added too much weight and length to my liking. Hesitantly I ended up cutting it in half and then adding a rubber bumper that attaches with wood screw. I also removed all the weight in the cue. Now I can buy the std 29" shaft. 4" ext. is perfect for me.
I take the extension off on some shots as it makes it easier with lighter/shorter cue for me. Love it!!! Can shoot with or without the extension. Earl and then SVB started the trend. Shaw and some others followed.
