we had our apa master's league play off last night....going into that we were in 2nd place for the season. so we had the playoffs for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th last night. our team ("Balls to the Wall") came in 1st place! in the $$$$$$. congrats and thanks to the team members. :thumbup:it was quite a battle and we finished up at 2:30am this morning!

League started this week for me, play 8 ball two nights a week, and sub on a different league.
Fist week went well, Monday night shot a 41 out of a possible 50 with 3 wins out of 5. Weds night shot a 34 out of a possible 50, won 3 games of 5 but had a guy break and run against me, and the other game I lost I ran a few balls and played safe, the guy made a really tough shot and ran out.

In 8. I was playing bobby on dusty's team. That had a super long timeout and while reaching to place the cue ball at some point they brushed my ball. I think it was an accident but you never know. I was playing next to you and Eddie. It got replaced so no harm.
Well I suppose I can make a more serious comment about how I am doing.
Tonight was my first night back in a league after 4 plus years. In the last 4 years I have hardly played at all. The league is BCA 9 ball. 3 matches per night playing two games each match.
Given all the obsticals I think I did OK first night out.
New team and I knew no one on the team. The only person I knew was home due to being sick.
Not to mention I was shooting with a brand new cue that until tonight I have not played with at all. Same with my break cue. (cues came from RFisher)

Third Round Win Lost
Made some really decent shots when I was left in a tight spot. One jump shot for a pocketed ball and a few kicks that wound up hooking them also.
Im sure as I get more acustom to the cue and team members (and the DAMN Smoke) I will improve.

Won 3-0 over a sl 3 on Monday night APA 8-ball, to get our team a 6-6 tie to start the new session, and that was with us giving up a forfeit match.
Picked up a 15-5 win over a sl 2 in Tuesday 9-ball. Not sure how the team finished, but we had lost the first 3 matches fairly badly.

i just looked up my apa schedule for next week . what i saw probably should not piss me off but it did. :frown:
the captain and co captain of my tue night team changed our name with out asking any one else on the team. one other player and i are the only original members of this team that started 3 years ago. i was the co captain from the beginning and when our captain left last year i said i did not want to continue being co captain because i could not devote the time necessary due to playing money league at the same time.
the new captain brings on this girl and makes her co captain which i was fine with. this team wants to be competitive but we dont have the players needed to compete at a high level. i am fine with that and just treat is as a night doing what i enjoy...just playing pool.
i even found it amusing that the captain selected the co captain as our team mvp last session although she only won 2 matches and lost 14. still lmao every time i think about that.
although i have not really devoted every week to this team i still think they should have put it to a vote about changing the name of the team.
how original is the name ....WE NEED A NEW NAME. wtf kind of name is that for a team ? their iq is no higher than their skill level. damn...makes me want to quit this team. :angry:

I'm not a fan of the new name.
When I ended up as captain of a new team a few sessions back, I came up with some ideas, asked the existing members (who all said, "whatever"), and went with my favorite. If I wanted to change it now, I would definitely ask if my teammates wanted to change it, and if so, ask for suggestions.

i kinda like ..overrated.
my sunday night team is named bad company...although we went to vegas in 2013 we have not been a bad ass enough team to make it again.
the name of my fri night team is called... just clowning around.
we are just clowning around every fri night and never expect to get past play offs. :grin-square:
Finally got NAPA started again after the holidays. I needed 3 in a 7-3 race and won 3-2. I didn't need to do too much. For one of my wins, my opponent broke, the cue ball hopped straight into a side pocket and then we all watched the 8-ball meander in after it.
More importantly, I think, is that we are in 2nd place by about 50 points and were playing the first place team. We won the night so now the lead is about 40 points. We have 5 more weeks to erase that deficit. Like September baseball, it's not completely in our control (we need to win while the other guys lose) but we have a chance.

I play in 2 different leagues here in Holland, I play in the highest regional league called the 1st class, and also national 3rd division. This year, they changed the rules, previously you could not play regional and national. As a result, the regional league now has players who also play national 1st division. The gulf in class between some of the players is ridiculous. Personally I don't care too much about that side of things, I wouldn't get to play against guys like this if the rules hadn't changed, but there again, my team are currently 2nd bottom out of 15 teams. Last year we finished 4th. We were one of 3 teams in the league not to bring in ringers from the national divisions, and these three teams occupy the bottom three spots in the league. There are no handicaps or anything over here so it's tough. The worst part for me personally is if we get relegated from the 1st class, I can no longer play for the 3rd division team!! So not doing too great in the league just now!!
Monday nights played against my brother, who came in as a 3 on his second week ever playing league. Lost two games to zero. That sucks
Won a 14-6 match in 9-ball Tue night. Our team blew them away, winning four of the five matches.
Somehow ended up back in the in house bar league on Wed. Won my singles match due to opponent scratching on the 8-ball shot.

We're closing in on the last few weeks of the session for my Valley league. I can't say I've been thrilled with my level of play this session. I feel like I have trouble getting my game from the practice table to league night. I know part of the problem is that league is really the only time I 1. play 8 ball and 2. play on barboxes. After shooting a perfect 50 in my first week I hadn't been able to do it again until I broke through this week. It always seemed like 1 or 2 stupid mistakes per night cost me a match. Last night not only was I playing well, but I felt like for the first time my brain was working right. I played smarter shots, better patterns, and toned down the aggressiveness. Hoping I can keep that feeling going for the rest of the session and at the state tournament.

My 8-ball team finished middle of the pack, not surprising as I lost my 7 to another league mid season, and lost my 4 to a crazy new girlfriend about the same time. (Seriously, we were worried she had him locked in the basement or something...scary gal.)

Those names, they're all good, passable, but they're common. You'd find most of them in just about any division of any league throughout the country. At the APA national team event I'm pretty sure I saw each of those name at least twice. Those are good names, nothing in the world wrong with them, but when I look for a new team name I look for something uncommon, and the other team talking about a name recently in this thread, "We Need A Name", also common, and not a terribly clever choice. When I look for a new name I try to choose something rarely used before, then a few sessions later I look to see how many times that name is repeated. A good name is unique, catchy, thought provoking. If you have a good name someone will always come up to you and comment, "great name" or "cool shirt" so you have to have a good logo to go with it. The name should have a some sort of relationship with what your team is in some way. Years ago I captained a team, my first team, we were an Asian, 2 Hispanics, an African American, Feminist, a really hot gold digging slut, a White Supremest, and a Dirty Hippy, we were called "Harmony and Diversity". I didn't like it at first but I grew to really like it. More recently the team I'm on is a big movie quote team, movies from the 80's mostly, so we took the name "Cobra Kai", everyone loved that name and no one else (that we could find) was using it. Another name I always liked but could never sell anyone one was this one - with a logo - "The Enucleators"
Try that one on for size. I always thought it would look great on a shirt, feel free to use it if you like

have you ever had a shot come up that you know you should not attempt but you shoot it any way ? it never works out does it ?
i was on my last ball playing 8 ball last sunday. it looked like if i cut it the cue ball would carom off and knock the 8 in early. 2nd option was to bank my last ball back up table into a corner pocket.
like a dummy i went ahead and cut it knocking the 8 in the opposite corner. the other racks did not go much better and i lost a 4-5 race 2-5.
played 9 ball after wards vs a 4 next and played a lil above my normal self winning 19-1. points wise was 38-7.
tue night 8 ball vs another 5 i was off again.....missing shots and had no semblance of cue ball control. lost 4-2.
got 8 ball tri cups this weekend...hope i get my head straight by then.
