Optimal Height? - 03-02-2012, 10:41 PM

We've had champions in pool of all different sizes. Has anyone figured out the best height, weight, arm length, etc. for shooting the best pool?

Just an ongoing discussion with buddies. Tall seems good for reaching, but a long way down to the stance. Short seems better for easier stance and aiming but certainly a reach problem. As in all sports, it seems like most physical can be overcome but there seems like there should be an ideal.

What do you think?

Lines I like to hear:

I put myself through college shooting pool.

I play in a pool league.

I'll play anyone in this bar for $100.

When we are younger and more limber height seems to be an advantage because there is so much more of the big tables we can cover without a crutch. As we get older getting down to the shot seems harder in long sessions and a shorter statue seems to be more of an advantage. The ideal physique would seem to be short with arms like a chimpanzee!

Tables are still at the same height they were a hundred years ago despite the average height of humans being substantially taller and our stance at the table substantially lower to the table than it was when the height was settled on. It would seem reasonable to raise the standard height of the tables by at least several inches.

There isn't which is why there are champions in all shapes and sizes.

You would be better off trying to measure someones heart.
