Hands down, Kid Delicious' story, Running The Table needs to be a movie real bad.

Think about it, the fat Jewish kid who was bullied in school, drops out, and finds a second family at the local pool hall becoming one of the most colorful and unlikely hustlers in modern times.

Criss-crossing north America with his handsome, polar-opposite road partner, the wins, the losses, the scrimping and the scores, the hijinx, the Philly mafia won't let him leave their joint until every local player of note gets a shot at him, on and on and on.

I was actually frustrated when I got to the end, I wanted some more adventures..

I believe it has real potential to be a blockbuster and I know danny told me that it was being considered a long while back and lionsgate had bought the rights to his story but it all seems to have fallen apart.

great story, though.

If you never read it, get it. I promise you'll be happy you did.

On a side note, Danny is registered to play in the pro 10 Ball at the upcoming Expo.

How about the "Color of Money" all the original used was the title, the novel
is totally different and in some ways better.

Excellent book!

Also...The Green Felt Jungle, by Gerald Hubert.

No one compares to the Fat Man. Ain't even close. He was born, raised, groomed by his dad and lived it till he passed. The amount of footage and articles about this man, could fill many a book. He had his own TV show, retail stores for awhile and on an on. You could put all of em in one spot and Fatty could out tell, sell and entertain. He played his best in the 40's to the early 50's and there will never be another, like efren. This guy is special. He's not just another flying tomato. I wonder how many city/town and county mayors or social elites and world leaders he had in his hands, when he did his exhibitions.

I'm sure many themes are the same throughout the pool world. The kid delicious story would be awesome, I agree.
There's a paper back I read by Jay Helfert called, Pool Wars. That lil book has all the makings of a good movie.

This would be a great movie, The Fat man is hard to beat.

Just the stories of Fats and Titanic Thomson could make a great mini series!

McGootry is my #1 choice. And although I don't have a lot of respect for Fats pro game, he would make a great stotry.

McGoorty done in the style of a Scorsese film like Casino or Good Fellas or a movie like Boogie Nights that spans a significant period of time and that focused more on the characters and less the game would be awesome.

Too many pool movies are made that focus on the game of pool itself. The best pool movies focus on characters who happen to also be pool players.

The Match Maker.jpg

Born in Tifton, Georgia, but raised in Florida. Life for me consisted of selling automobiles for twenty-six years, which I believe was the biggest waste of my life. Until you experience being inside the car business, the truth becomes clouded from the onlookers looking in. But during this time, the opportunity to learn how to play good pool became a passion after watching “Dave,” who owned the Golden Cue in Lompoc, California, years ago, run one-hundred and fifty balls without missing. He was also known as a master three cushion billiards player, and other feats he had accomplished years past. I guess from him, and this Chinese fellow I knew when I was in the Air Force, I became fascinated with the “game of pool!” And years later, after meeting Mike Massey, the world’s best masse artist, I begin to write about adventures in the pool game, and life for me changed overnight

I think a movie made from the book "The Adventures of Dick Phoenix" could be a winner.
Maybe get Brad Pitt to play the role of Phoenix. Penelope Cruz as Lola. And Martha Stewart as Dick's faithful, but absent minded housekeeper. Will Ferrule could play the evil villain Disque-co.

Yea, that's just what the billiards reputation in America needs.... another round of movies glorifying hustlers, hustling & fast, big payouts.

All the sarcasm aside... I'd love to watch any new pool movie that comes out... I just think its unfortunate that only the seedy side of pool is sexy enough to make into a movie.

It is the same with Poker movies, right? They are not interesting without a seedy side to them. Would Rounders have been that good without the Mafia connection? I do not think so. Too bad that pool is not as mainstream as poker though. Then maybe a really great hit movie could be made based on a pool novel.

Excellent point Celtic. A perfect example is the best of the best ... The Hustler. Only the less introspective fans think it was all about pool.
