true story
First year students get to register after the people with seniority at LSU BR or at least that is the case when I went. By the time I got to register the only two PE's available were golf and bowling and a PE was mandatory. Being smarter than the average bear I realized that bowling in climate control beat hell out of chasing little white balls all over hell and half an acre outdoors.
I owned a bowling ball and could put down a 200 game pretty much at will so I thought I was in there. One minor problem, I used a self-taught freeform three step approach. The class taught a mandatory four step approach. Trying to start off on the "wrong" foot I would throw in all kinds of weird half skips and such trying to sort out my approach. Out of forty some odd people in the class I was the worst bowler, not excluding a little ol' blue haired lady in her late seventies or eighties!
People brush their leg with the ball learning, I was getting so far behind the leg that I looked like Dagwood Bumstead when I flew up in the air and a quarter of the way down the alley! My right leg looked like it had been hit repeatedly with a wrecking ball! To make matters worse, even after the class was over I couldn't bowl with a three or four step approach. I don't recall breaking 170 afterwards and looking silly as hell doing it!
