Our team won the regular season Championship , now we have 2 weeks of play-offs . last night was the the play-offs for all but the #1 & 2 teams , Saterday more playoffs , will get down to 8 teams double eliminations and then the following sat 4 teams will shoot off double elimination for over all championship . We did win this last yr .

Back to back brotha, doooo it!

We are about 7 points back in 8 ball with 6 weeks to go so we have some ground to make up. I need to get my head out of my #$%^$% as I am playing like a putz this session 6 Wins - 2 Losses :(

8 ball strategy

What are your thoughts about doing this?
apa 8 ball rules.
Brake and make one solid and one stripe.I like solids much better, as stripes
have several problems. However, I do not have a shot to make a solid.
I roll the cue ball to play a safe leaving the only shot a shot at a stripe.
I usually only see players in this situation shooting to make an open makable
ball.
I tried the saftey rout last nite and it worked out ,
Thought?

You played it correctly. You could also hit a stripe into a solid to make a solid, since it's still open. Forcing the other player into a bad spot right away can work well, too.

I pulled that same move last night. I figured, for an APA 6, he wouldn't be so dumb to shoot at it, but he did and had no possible out.

On another topic, this happened before league last night, around 3pm. A player from another home team was scoping me out while I was killing time; Older guy (late 60's) plays as a SL3, but sandbags bad.

I rattled a ball and he comes up to me and says, "You know, you shoot way too hard. If you hold your cue closer to here *puts his back hand about an inch from the joint*. Then you wouldn't hit them so hard. Ya know, when you hold the cue so far back, you're gonna hit it hard every time."
I tried not to laugh, but the inner a-hole in me blurted out, "No offense, but you are full of S#%@... Here, let me show you something."

I briskly walked over to my case, got my extension out, screwed it on (making my cue 65" long), proceeded to walk over to the table, and run out the rest of the rack shooting every shot slow as humanly possible.

Have you met this type of guy before? I've met at least three in the past two weeks.

Oh, and they just started a "Straight 8" league. You should see the rules... :rotflmao:

You'd be surprised at how many people will just start firing away, given the chance. I was playing the same way in Vegas last year. I'd pick the suit I wanted, leave them with some screwed up flyer and away they'd go.. for a few balls. After that, things were a little easier to navigate and I didn't have to worry about leaving them as many shots.

There was a tournament nearby for a while. Double-elim, single game format. The rules had stuff like.. ball in hand if you don't hit your intended ball first(ie, if you kick and miss the 9 you wanted to hit, but did hit the 10, it was still a foul). You had to call all combos, even if they were obvious. I can't remember if the 8 had to go clean or not. It was pretty rough sometimes, but most of the time those funny rules didn't come into effect. I liked the tournament because it was over quickly and I didn't have to stay all night if I did well.

Having never played other than an occasional game on a bar box, I started playing league last summer so my goal was to be a 5/5 before the end of one year in league. I'm close to moving up to a six in 8 and finally after winning 14 of 16 in 9 ball moved up to a 5. Tonight will be the first night I get to play as a 5/5. I want to be a 6/6 before the end of 2014.

Lost my 9-ball match to another SL5. I lost 38-35 giving their team 12-8. I wouldn't be so annoyed if I had played someone that was half ass decent. Let me elaborate...

This guy shows up, in full Affliction style clothing head to toe.
My captain puts me up and says, "You'll be fine. It will be easy."
I win the break. I break and make two. Play safe on the one and jam up the CB.
He wacks away and hits everything but the one. His team gets angry with him and he shouts "I hate 9ball! I don't even care anymore!" I get BIH and run out. I break game 2, run a few and play a bad safe. He makes one ball, shoots the next one at lightning speed and scratches. Next rack, I'm up 19-1 with a runout. Then I miscue... He pulls out a break cue. Yes, a break cue, and proceeds to wack away at the balls. He ends up running the last 4. After watching him play wack-a-mole the next rack, he finally misses. Then I was just getting annoyed. Everytime I played safe. He would swing for the fences. He got out of my safeties about 50% of the time and averaged 3 balls made each time.

He broke one rack dry, I came to the table and kick safed. He one stroked it 100mph, made 4 balls, and got somewhat of shape...

Break Cue - check
Ram Shot - check
Luck of the Irish - check

I don't get it...

We had a guy here that used to do that, in both 8 & 9 ball. No shot? Hit it hard.

And damned if he would get something to slop in...

Most aggravating matches I've ever had. (That didn't involve my own screw ups, heh heh.)

Not counting breaks and safeties, I only missed one shot. This guy missed every shot and still made two or three. His comments toward me, for playing well the first two racks, definitely agitated me, but not as much as the ram shots. His comments were sarcastic and uncalled for, "Good game buddy, you are sooo good."

What are you, 12 years old?... I can't stand people like that; and not just league players, anyone in life that acts that way.

i am gonna catch up 2 nights in one post.

last night apa 8 ball. faced a pretty good 4 and lost 3-3. i knew it was gonna be an off night when our 2 beat me 2 outa 3 on the practice table before my match.

tonight was laggers choice napa league. i won the lag and chose 8 ball. it was a 4-4 race. i won 4-1. i played some lock down safes and made some shots and got position that impressed my team mates. shoulda been 4-0 but i dogged the 8 once.

and to krupa...... we used the online scoring system tonight. i played the 1st match and yours truly here wound up keeping score on the next 2 matches. pretty neat system.

Ever play someone that for some reason you just cant beat...Sometimes I think I'm just not supposed to win...I played a guy yesterday that just seems to have my number...Back story --> First time I played him was last season (9-ball) he breaks makes a ball shoots at the 1 ball in the side mach 3, It nipples out crashes into a pile of balls and makes the 9 (race to 1...what ya gunna do?) ...next time I play him...9 on the snap ....been waiting to play this guy this season in 8 ball...

I break, they spread out great and I get a ball...has B&R written all over it!...So I'm running out, I have one kinda tough shape shot where I have to fall in a window and draw right back through the same window to get shape on my last ball (7 ball) before the 8. I shoot the shot and draw it right back through the window, speed looks spot on...I'm out...wait no I'm not because the Q-ball hits a tiny little pebble of chalk on the felt and is knocked off track just enough to hook me!!!!! ...I jump at it, make a hit and leave him out but from what I have seen he rarely runs over 3 balls so I still fill like I'm in the game...He shoots a couple of ducks and gets out of shape leaving him self a long table bank. He fires the bank at mach 6 and misses short but the ball go's up and down the table and caroms in the pocket he called off my 7....:angry::angry: He then shoots the wrong shot at mach 3 go's 4 rails with the CB to kiss off the 8 for shape and gets out...WTF???....somehow this guy just beats me every time we play....I shook his hand and told him he played well but on the inside I was heated...how in the hell can someone get so damn lucky...what are the odds of hitting a tiny ass little pebble of chalk that throws the CB safe then shitting a ball in a pocket that he had to call....oh well I'll get him next time....

Next week is the last week of the season. Trying to achieve a solid 8 ranking in our "regular vegas" league. Going to be in Vegas regardless of the outcome May 22-31...

NAPA laggers choice, I lost the lag, my opponent chooses 10-ball before the balls stopped rolling... When I plug in the numbers I see why... it's a 5-3 race (I need 5) and he's at least even if not better than I am.

That's my one complaint about NAPA Laggers Choice, a rating for one game may stay low simply because you don't play that game as much/ever.

So I lost 3-1. Third loss in a row... I think that officially makes it a skid.

Ah well, the page has been turned and I'm looking forward to a (non-league) 10-ball tournament this weekend.

AND... NAPA Nationals Registration has opened! So I'm getting giddy for that week of no-wives, pool awesomeness.

I shook his hand and walked away shaking my head.

On a lighter note;
I have all of the silly patches I wanted to get:
8 on the break
8 ball break and run
9 on the snap
9 ball break and run
Rackless Night

Are there any other "challenge" type patches? Maybe a Spimp patch for a 8 point break? lol

....oh well I'll get him next time....

Hasn't happened to me but I've seen the same thing with a guy on my team. Always seems to get matched up with this guy...who he hates...and never wins.

The thing about luck is it always runs out. You'll get him next time.

Older guy (late 60's) plays as a SL3, but sandbags bad.

I've seen the type many times it seems. Why do some guys think that simply because they're older, that they know better??? Seems to me that a SL3 shouldn't be giving anyone advice.

Nice playing for a beginner. Good luck with your goals.

Good luck man!

Maybe a Spimp patch for a 8 point break? lol

Oh thats the most elusive one of all!
