I played absolutely $hitty tonight. Was down 0-3 to a buddy of mine. Brought it back to 2-3, and had a good shot on the 8 in the last game, and just donkeyed it.

I don't like being a sore loser, but I was tonight. Not directly to my opponent, I just did a bit too much sulking. So angry, at myself.

Our team only needed to have an average-to-slightly-above-average night to get into the playoffs. That didn't happen. We are so much better than how we played tonight. Of course, that's why we play the games...

Grrrrrrrrrrr.............

Haha. I'll probably head down to the American Legion to play on the big track sometime on Thursday. May even try to film myself playing 14.1 for online review  determined to learn how to run a rack. Need to practice my 9b also. Need to fix my slow start problem, as 9b is not something you can survive being a slow starter.

UPA 8ball - i underline this.
Team #1 - is 1st place.
Team #2 - is 2nd place.
semi-finals & $400 pot difference.

Team #1, only has 3 players at the last minute, of 4-5 (cause 1 man can play twice). any/all substitutes are over the limit of 28 points. the Captain calls the LO for help. the LO says he thinks he can solve the problem, but has to call Frank Alvarez for ruling....

Ruling: FYI, in UPA, with 28 limit - if you EXCEED 28 pts, then it is a 1-time 2 PENALTY POINT deduction. not per match (of 5). 2 points, total.

i thought yáll said that if you go over (even an honest mistake), then the entire team FORFEITS ALL 5 MATCHES?

I beat up on APA 5s and 6s this last Saturday (buddies of mine) playing good ol bank on the 8 (call pocket open off the break rules). I think I will be ready when I start playing league again, however FOOTBALL is here which takes priority!

Our team made it to the City Cup (Indpls) for 8 ball.

My 8 ball has been weeeeak! Played 10 matches, won 4. My 9 ball has been better, played 9 matches, won 7.

Looking forward to playing in the summer session finals.

In UPA: each night it's 5 matches, each one having 10 points on the line. Last session I was thrust into being captain. I didn't know all the rules and unknowingly put up 5 players ranking 29 points total which is 1 point over the max. @ a month later we were docked a forfeit = 10 points. I inquired with LO and was told they could have docked us ALL 5 matches.

Last night I was in a pickle, called the LO, who called the prez & was advised "now, it is a 2 point deduction". I found this out 2 matches into the evening and the opposing captain was none too pleased when I asked his permission to make a lineup change due to a sickness.

Keeping up with the unwritten rules is difficult.

Being a captain is often a thankless, stressful job that can adversely affect your game.

I got revenge on a s/l 5 friend that beat me last session, playing our other home team in the season opener. Our teams kinda split the night, I think.

We have BCA starting up tomorrow night. What a nightmare it has been trying to get pool players to commit to anything. Herding cats. Lots of cats. Cats that, even in cat standards, really have no idea what they're doing next. I've got a team, another team had already committed(and stuck with it!), the owner put together a team and I'll probably have enough stragglers to form a 4th team to get the minimum amount. Once it gets going and has a season under its belt, I'm pretty sure the rest will be much easier.

Our team plays Tuesday night Double Jeopardy (APA), so I play this guy last night, I win, OK, pretty good, but I have never seen S/L's like this before - He's a 2 in 8 ball, and a 5 in 9 ball. I figure in reality he's probably about a 4 in both. Anyway's I drew him in each. You'd figure he's a new player, he's a session into APA, played about 15 matches or so. First time I'd ever seen that big of a discrepancy in skill levels

i know, i know.... but HOW can this even be a rule? if true, then i'd be playing all 5 of my 9's, weekly & taking the "2 pt penalty". along with 1st place, consistently.

likewise, if there are any UPAs reading this thread, i wanted them to have it documented. ;)

On the surface, it's a pretty weak penalty. Without knowing UPA format, I can't say how likely you would be to win playing all 9's every week. In NAPA, the races are such that the worst guy in the league can beat the best guy (e.g., a 9-2 or 10-2 nine-ball race.)

It could be argued that intentionally breaking a rule every week is unsportsmanlike conduct and instead of 1st place, you would get nothing and like it, Spalding.

We came in third in a sixteen week season. After week one, we were in last place.

Thanks to my team mates who carried my sorry azz.

I was going to write a whole page here on all of the B**LS**T that went down last night and how we were forced to start playing long before the LO could give us a clue as to what we could (or couldn't) do under the UPA rules and how the points would go in each direction. It really sounded like it was being made up as they went along. Where is the damn rule book??? No one has the time or needs to deal with this kind of no answers crap. It's like having a huge fight with your wife just before you play a match. It's worse than being sharked during a match.
The LO made the right (and fair) calls in my opinion... but not until it had disrupted our team throughout the first 4 matches out of 5. In his (the LO's) defense, the opposing team's captain and others on their team kept throwing complaints at everything they could think of to whine about.

Believe me that I for one am quite thankful to be teamed with a captain that works so hard with issues such as last night. I'm not thankful that the UPA does indeed make yours such a stressful job that can adversely affect your game... and I know that it does because when your head is clear, it's always a pleasure to watch you shoot (and win).
Just remember... we are a team of players who win their matches because we were the better players on that night... we don't hover over petty issues as if we don't have enough confidence in our skills at the table. That is a testament to the integrity of a great captain. Maybe we should have renamed our team "Shut up and Shoot". Fortunately we don't have these types of issues with any of the other teams that we play against... maybe a single player here or there. With that being said... let's put last night behind us and finish this season "out right".

Just got home from my Weds night Mega Bucks League which is a BCA sanctioned league.http://www.playmapl.com/megabucks/main.html Tonight was 8-Ball. I'm playing an opponent one s/L higher than me so I get one game and one ball off the table in a race to nine. I blow a 5-1 lead when he ties me 5-5. Then it's neck and neck, I get 6 he gets 6, I get 7 he gets 7. He got his 7th win with a break and run. I then win and I'm on the hill with eight. We play alternate break and it's my turn to break. I break and a stripe goes in. Then as the balls were scattering a "solid" goes in. I figured I had one of each and was trying to decide what I should shoot for when my opponent comes over, shakes my hand, and says good match. I honestly didn't realize the solid that went in was the eight!!! I realize an eight on the break is 99% luck but what a way to win. Smiling all the way home!!

We just finished our 13 week session in an in-house 8-ball league. Our team finished in 1st place and we will get a check cut to us in a week or two.
