Gonna hang up my cues.... (Not really)

Last night I managed to beat the guy who most everyone considers to be the best around here.... 8-ball, 5-3 race. I won 3-3.

No cheap 8-ball scratches or 8-on-the-breaks. I just stayed alive and got lucky.

To be fair, we could have played that race 20 more times and I probly wouldn't win again. I know he's not terribly invested in a little APA match. I got some fortuitous leaves where he had to kick at stuff instead of running out.

Going into the match my goal was to win one game so he wouldn't get all three points. He won the lag, then broke and ran out. Sigh. Then he broke dry, and I ran 6 balls, just missing the one before the 8. He hung one and I got out. At that point, I had already "won" in my mind, so why not see if I could get another game and a point for getting to the hill..... We traded games back an forth, and I said to myself "if I get lucky I may just win this". Damned if I didn't

I'm not gonna go crowing about how I "beat" him. But I did win, and I am pretty pumped about that.

Put up my cues, I'm done! nahhhh

I really did hang up my cues... for the summer anyway.

My NAPA team ended up in 3rd place for the session. I had a tough match that I was NOT in control of at all. The games I won were because my opponent scratched when I only had a couple balls left.

Our NAPA LO is doing a summer singles session but it's not on a set night. Every week you have to coordinate with your opponent to meet up and play. I did that last session and it just got really annoying to deal with.

Also, I have no interest this summer in spending time practicing in my basement or spending sunny summer evenings in bars.

Have a good summer!

Speaking of innings. A few weeks ago I ran 38 points in 6 innings playing 9 ball. My lo told me at masters Sunday that 38 in 6 innings was s/l 7 territory. What do you guys think ?

Btw ....i was raised to a 6
I think in 8-ball 2 innings avg is squarely in the 6 category. How many games to get to your 38 points? I think the system looks at games / innings. You were probably less than a 1.5 inning average per game which I suspect is s/l 7 range.

Our newly minted 3 (was a 2 earlier this session) got a 9-ball break and run on a 7' Diamond Coin-Op. I don't think I've seen a 3 get a BNR before, anybody else?

So far:

L / 8-12
W/ 12-8
L / 6-14
L / 8-12

I've been playing terribly and each match was the only time that I have played/practiced in the last month. I'm playing poorly, because I haven't had free time to practice.

lol...9 ball APA can get very screwy at times especially for being a higher handicap. Trying to get to 65 before a person gets to like 31 who has the ability to occasionally runout or hooks me when they miss can be brutal if I am not making a ball on my break to at least control the beginning of a game to an extent.

We once had an S/L 1 get a break and run in 9 ball. I couldn't call it legit though, it was a lot like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRbe4VAKc4Q

That's what I've found out too. I'm a 6 close to a 7 in 9, and it seems since I moved to a 6 I either win 16-4 or 15-5 or lose 15-5 14-6. If my break drops one or two and at least gives me a safe option, I will more than likely dominate a 5 or lower. When my break isn't working or I rattle a 7 or 8 ball, I can get in trouble. Back when I first started, I loved playing 8s and 9s because our 8 footers have stingy pockets, so if they rattle one and I run the last three and then make a ball on the break, I could easily beat an 8 or 9. Hard to win going to 55, 65 or 75 if you are only winning a rack 6-4.

+1000 to this...so true. It makes the break so huge. Even playing as a 7 in 8 ball can be brutal playing 5s that I spot 2 games that play just a bit under than me. If I don't win that first game its now a 5-2 race yikes.

I have not seen a legit 3 do it. People do get lucky sometimes and things work out, but 9 balls in a row on a tight corner pocket Diamond is HIGHLY unlikely for a player of that caliber even if all the balls were sitting within a foot of a pocket.
