Has anyone purchased one of those cheapo durometers advertised on ebay auctions? The ones shown ranging from 18 to 28 bucks? I'm interested in feedback for use in checking cue tips?

I realize they dont have to be very accurate, just consistent relatively from tip check to tip check. Thx.

It all depends on the shore hardness scale of the durometer. Most are in the A scale and will not work very well withy the harder tips. Look for one that is in the D scale would be a better option, although they are more expensive, they will work better for checking tips.

Good luck with your search.

The cheap ones on Ebay are fine just to check tip hardness
Looks like they're about $35 now days

I found mine on ebay, it wasn't the cheapo one, but it was used and an older one. I paid a little under what the cheapo ones go for, it seems to work fine.
I also bought a cheapo digital one, the readings so far have been identical

I remember it said that the cheaper ones will work ok.

At the time that I was looking, the stands were the killer. Maybe cheaper now.

How would one use it without a stand.

I don't think you can get a very good reading by hand held.

Build your own, possibly.
