Dang, sorry to hear that man.
Not much you can do but wait for it to heal. When I hurt my back and couldn't play, I kept watching match videos and trying to improve my visualization skills, but it just got frustrating because all it did was make me want to get on the table and play. After a while, I just quit thinking about pool altogether and got back into old hobbies like reading and playing video games. The past 10 years I had been totally caught up in pool, and a lot of great books and games had come out that I didn't even know about so it was a lot of fun to catch up on those.

When I did finally recover, I felt really excited to play and it was the most fun I had playing pool in years.

Or you can just get yourself one of these babies:

When you play soccer, try to favor the other leg...But seriously, read books and watch Accu-Stats. You'll get really excited about playing and you'll come back playing great. At least I did when I had to take a break.

I second this one...I know when I spend the time watching old matches on YouTube of some of my favorite players (style-wise, not necessarily personality) that I get excited about playing. I try to pick up on certain things they're doing...whether it's stance, grip, stroke, etc.

I hope your recovery time is short!!! :)

+1

Since you will be sitting around a lot, I suggest you watch some recorded matches. I can provide you with many links, if needed. The recorded matches are great, not only for the match itself, but for the commentary. Professionals and industry leaders share a ton of information when they are put on the spot on a live stream.

A little pocket pool can help while away the hours, but what you need is a joke to cheer you up.

Next door to our pool hall is a pet store, and every day at noon the owner sets his little parrot outside for some sunshine.
A woman, with a face that would make a freight train take a dirt road, comes walking by the pet store and stops to look at the little parrot sitting in his little parrot cage. She asks the little parrot. "Does Polly want a cracker?"
The little parrot looks up at her and says. "You are soooo f..king ugly!"
The woman gasps, tears open the little parrot's cage door, grabs the little parrot by his little parrot wing and body slams him to the sidewalk. She stomps off in disgust.
The very next day the same woman walks by the pet store and sees the little parrot sitting in his little parrot cage. One of his little parrot eyes is swollen shut and one of his little parrot wings is in a little parrot sling.
Again she asks. "Does Polly want a cracker?'
Once more, the little parrot looks up at her with his one good little parrot eye and says. "You are still soooo f..king ugly!"
The woman becomes enraged. She rips the little parrot cage door off it's hinges, grabs the little parrot by it's little parrot throat, and throws him against the front window of the pet store where he bounces into the street and gets run over by a truck. The woman leaves in a huff.
The following day the woman walks by the pet store, and once again sees the little parrot cage sitting out front.
She looks down and there's the little parrot lying in a little parrot hospital bed. He has a little parrot IV going into one of his little parrot wings, and one of his little parrot legs is in a little parrot cast.
She says. "Well little parrot, what have you got to say now?"
The little parrot slowly opens his one good little parrot eye. Looks up at the woman and says. "Youuuu know!"

Spend time reviewing pro player games, look at how they play patterns and safety play. There is a lot to be learned by observing.

Have a session with a physical therapist to establish an exercise routine that you can perform and will help you heal faster. Do not sit on your ass.

Eat right and get plenty of sleep -- two of the most important ingredients of healing.

And like Tramp says, laugh. No joke, it really helps with your circulation and pulmonary function.

Heal. That's the most important thing, just heal. Don't do anything to push it, like trying to shoot while you're hopping around on a cast. You won't be standing properly, and you'll only compensate in ways that won't help your game. The rest of the advice is sound, do as much research on the game that you can, to exercise your brain and keep you in the game while your leg knits itself back.

I would also watch some of Dr. Dave's videos as there is a lot info on tangent line, kicking etc, etc that you may not already know.

When that happened to me my penis turned orange.
I went to the Dr. to find out what was wrong, I was very concerned about this.
Upon examination the Dr. asked me what I do all day since I broke my leg, I replied "I cant do much really, I sit around eating Cheetos and watching porn but thats about it":shocked2:

I don't know about working on your game, but I'll bet you'll be working on your stroke more. :slap:

Work on your position, you'll probably find certain stances or types of shots that don't hurt as much and are easier to get into so try to plan position out so accurately that you only use these stances.

Google visualization. May sound strange but do nothing but visualization about playing pool until you can get back at the table.

Don't watch anything, read and so on. Just visualization playing pool.

If done properly, the mind will not know what is real and what is imagined.

There was a study about basketball playing using visualization to improve.

Sometimes getting away from something for a bit will help you come back stronger. Kinda just letting things soak in before the next round ....so to speak.

While that sounds good on paper, it's not practical or realistic to "imagine" playing pool for hours. You'd be way better off watching a lot of classic matches and envisioning yourself taking their shots and absorbing their confidence as they play. Is way more effective.

Really....and you did read the basketball study about those that used visualization improve more than those that did not?

How much research into the benefits of visualization did you do before you made this statement.

And who said hours?

Ever raced? One of the things motorcycle racers do is sit in a chair with a stop watch. They click the watch and visualize a lap of a track. When the finish line comes up, in their mind they click the stop, watch. The goal is to have the same lap time as in real life.

Visualization works and it's much better then watching what someelse ones does. Why would I imagine myself as someone else making shots and not me being that person making shots.

I can not play like someone else, so why would I want to imagine, visualize, playing a style of pool that's not me, but for someone else?

No one else has a stroke like mine, why would I want to visualize a stroke that's not mine? That is more harmful them helpful.

This is one of the problems in pool.....thinking you have to imitate the style of play of others, hence all the sellers of systems, personal style of play implying that's is THE way to play and very few about practice and what it really takes to improve, which is proper practice over a life time. Few are willing to make the lifetime commitment part. They want it now.

Notice who posted about practice routines.....

Those are some pretty close minded words for someone that has true beliefs about the power of visualization (as do I) Yes I have read those studies from years ago. I've used all of these techniques myself for decades before I even heard of it. I understood very early on anything we can imagine is generally no different from actual experience. That doesn't mean there are not ways to help improve the effect.

If you think that it's not possible to transfer observed performance and confidence of others into yourself you're just either not trying at all, or giving it a valid shot. To me, it's far more effective than just mental visualization alone. It's time for a new study since it's easier now than it's ever been in history to find relevant material that can be used for even stronger visualizations.

Along with watching old matches, working on your preshot routine and breathing. You don't need to hit a ball to practice the preshot routine and if you were to do this for a couple minutes a day or few times a week your preshot routine would be habit by the time you're back.
