New Cloth Question

Ok, most on here know I had new Powder Blue Simonis 860 put on my Gold Crown IV a few days ago. Earlier tonight I was faced with the above shot after the break ( finally got a chance to run out after 319 breaks) and decided to hit the 2B with just a hair of low and right to come back up into the middle of the table for the 3B.

But when the CB came off the 2nd rail it just died coming off. It ended up about a foot short of where I wanted to be. I was left with a very tough back cut on the 3B and managed to make it and get a shot on the 5B. I did proceed to run this rack.

Anyway, did I hose up something here? Why did the CB noticeably just "die" coming off the 2nd cushion? Or is it just the new cloth syndrome?

The CB has follow and reverse spin going into the second rail - both of those tend to slow it down coming off the rail, but I wouldn't expect it to be a surprising amount. Maybe you didn't hit it as hard as you meant to.

New cloth is the likely cause. See if you can make the shot work by moving the cue ball closer. The spin will not take as well on the cushion.

Extreme low right on new cloth would've brought the cb one rail toward center table, toward the 3. Probably not the best angle on the 3 to get to the 5, but you get a good shot. By going across the position zone for the 3 you face the likelihood of ending up short, as you did, or too long, leaving the cb somewhere near the 6 or between the 6 and 8. I think going toward the 3 eliminates the chance of ended up bad.

Another option is low right and bring the cb below the 3, between1.5 and 2.5 diamonds passed the side pocket. Then shoot the 3 in the side passed the 6. It's not a particularly easy setup, unless you have the speed of the table down pretty well.
