Short Cue Butts

I currently have a normal 'off the shelf' Predator 5K2 with Z2 shaft and as I mentioned on another thread I'm thinking of getting a table in a room that is basically too small.

However I'm fairly short (5' 7.5") and naturally cue with my back hand 2-3 inches from the back, so I have considered getting a shorter Butt.

I assumed this would be relatively simple, but it doesn't seem you can just buy them off the shelf.

So in short, if I do decide I want a shorter cue Butt does anyone produce an 'off the shelf' version that would work with a uniloc Z2 shaft, or would I have to go custom (which I'd rather avoid)?

I don't know of any shorter cue with a uniloc pin, all of the junior shorter cues I have seen use a 5/16 X 18 pin for the Action and those cheaper brands or the McDermott ones use a 3/8 x 10. If you want something reasonable in price, maybe find a damaged cue with the right joint and cut some off the back.

You won't really enjoy playing on a table in a too small a room, a friend of mine had a 9' GC in a smaller room and it was annoying enough that it was not a lot of fun playing there. If you have a few sides clear you can use it for practice easily enough.

Why would you rather avoid going custom? Your special needs almost demand working with a custom cuemaker. No doubt, negative experiences with cuemakers have been documented on AZB. Unfortunately, positive experiences do not generate as much attention. There must be plenty of cuemakers who could help you out and who would not require 2-3 year waits followed by additional 2-8 year delays. If you are concerned about dealing with a one-man shop, perhaps you could work with Schmelke or Prather to solve your needs. Personally, I would find a custom cuemaker.

Have you looked at kid sized cues? Most of the ones I've seen appear to have regular length shafts and shorten butts. Maybe you can find one already with the Uniloc pin, or have one put in.

Yep, I've only really read fairly negative stories on here and have no experience of custom makers myself, so that probably has put me off the idea (also I'm based in the UK so most here are snooker specialists)!

just get a descent house cue and shorten the butt end, Muellers has them. Come to think of it, they have them in various lengths. 52 and 57 are common length house cues at most any billiard supply store.

I have two cues with 25 inch butts that's 4 inches short, both were made by Jacoby Custom Cues. All of my playing shafts will fit these butts and all are radial pin. These cues are break cues.

Most of the cues I have seen that aren't junior cues with short butts are break cues, you could try searching for break cues with uni-lock pins. Some break cues are three piece butts like mine. Some are full length breaks are three piece, removing the last section might work for you.

Look at junior cues.

Have a custom made or a cue modified to suit your needs.

That's my 2 cents hope it helps.

Get a 2-piece butt (break/jump style).

Contact Schmelke Cues. They made me a 23" butt (3/8x10) for the exact purpose of using in a too-small room. I forget the price but it was very reasonable.

Well you're taller then me and I shoot with a standard cue. I used to be 5' 4". I'm shrinking due to age. Joey Barber stood maybe 5' tall, maybe. He shot with a standard cue. Joey went on the road with a road player as a body guard. He, Joey was the state champ in dead lift and clean and jerk back in the day. Had a mean upper cut. Why shorten the butt when you can get a shorter shaft if you want?

If I was in your shoes I would have a cue made buy a custom cue make and have the cue made like a jump break make the cue so that the part right behind the wrap comes out like an extension you could put a weight bolt in to keep it balanced then you would always have the same feel and weight. you could also have a cue modified to be that way. I believe NEWSHERIFF on here made a cue something like this.
