Congratulations on winning the World Straight Pool Championship. You are a deserving champion. It is nice to see a player from the USA win.

Win-win for the game of 14.1! Two gentlemen battling it out for a clifhanger finish.

No thanks to DP who did not bother to provide live updates..."Wanna know what's happening - ya gotta pay us!"

Nits.

Great job, John! Taking nothing away from Efren, but he makes it look hard, you make it look easy. It's great to see the nicest guy in pool and the best straight pool player on the planet finally in the winner's circle.

Congratulations John. It's hard to think of a player more deserving or to whom it means more to win. This is a long way from the supposedly "unknown" player who "upset" Mike Sigel in the 2000 U.S. Open 14.1.

Student takes up the mantle left by his mentor

Congratulations on your championship. It is good to see the championsip trophy back in USA. Last time was 1990.

And isn't it a cool touch that John is the student and protege of the last American to hold that title -- Bobby Hunter?

Student follows his master's lead -- and takes up the mantle.

Well done, John!
