The Casino must be Nuts. They Pool Players there from all over the World, and don’t expect any Gambling? Really? gambling? Oh, My! I’m appalled, I tell you! They schedule construction with all these people in attendance, and don’t even have enough parking for their Guests. However, they don’t mind inhaling Customers’ money on the Super Bowl and other Sports. Pool wonders why they have growth and Payout issues, meanwhile, Cornholing and poker are on T.V. More than Pool, while snooker, Poker, and Bowling dwarf Pool’s T.V. Coverage! I wonder why. Geeeze.

Well maybe not directly, but heavy discounting to rent the playing venue thus enabling DCC to afford the added money to the events....
The hotel is getting its money from the attendees who are trapped into eating mediocre high-priced food and have to pay the "special" rate of double the going rate for rooms. Hotels give up convention space for guaranteed room nights by attendees. DCC provides great steaming piles of room nights at high prices.

The hotel is in the middle of renovations. The result is that the venue is a piece of ^&*%$$V* **^&%$$ in many ways. I can provide a list.

As far as the amount of space at the Horseshoe, it is woefully inadequate for what Greg would like to do. I fear that the renovations will not increase the convention space.

Areas of the property are still/again flooded.

If you find a place let GS know.

Right about now, with record entries and a humungi load of spectators, I'd say he's doin' just fine.

Lou Figueroa

I don't have any illusions he wants to take the Show too far from home.

And I hear there is something afoot in the D.C. Area anyway. Not quite ready to be let out of the basement though, if ya know what I mean.:speechless::speechless:

Nits! On this forum, I always hear stories about how big money rolled free and pool players had money and spent it freely. Now they have a venue with the worlds best pool players in attendance, that involves a casino, and it it is constant whining about spending money! DCC is a great event in a very good venue! Don’t expect a free ride! Bring some of that big money you claim to gamble with and spend some and gamble some. And . . . don’t forget to tip!

Pool players and tipping, surely you jest.

I know that one thing the hotel staff hates there is that of all the events at the Horseshoe, DCC people staying there leave mostly nothing for the housekeeping staff, and the rooms are heavily used with usually more than 2 ppl staying in them.

As far as the money goes, I'm against charging a ton more just because of location. I have a Graeters Ice Cream right next door to me, and I don't think I should pay double because there is one at the Horseshoe.

With regards to the gambling and putting their money in action, yes I agree, seems lots of people talk about it on here and then there are a select few who are shipping it. Hard sometimes to even get a side on a match in front of you for cheap or expensive.

Yeah there are things to complain about like the renovations, but for all of the talk on this forum for how pool ia dead this event is thriving. The tournament room and the accustats arena was the most packed I've seen it in a long time. I brought my own food and got to see some amazing world class pool. I'm having as much fun as always.

For those interested in the Dennis vs Lil John match. Dennis won three sets 10-3, 9-3, and 12-1 if I recall correctly.

Who is Watkins?
I think he meant "Watson" as in Tony Watson. Big-time action player over the yrs. at DCC. He still plays, btw. Don't know if he still goes to Derby but it woudn't surprise me. In the early-mid '90s he was a monster cash player.

I have a friend who attended last year for the entire event just to watch and he said he got eaten up on daily admission fees. Claimed it was around $30 per day. He said if he entered the Banks competition he would be given free access to the entire event. That was his plan for this year but he was forced to miss due to a health issue.

I don't know if this is true, but if it is, that may account for the record number of entries in this years Banks competition.

$15/day general, $25/day VIP. A lot play the banks for the reason you mentioned, free entry for rest of event.

The good old days when there was $50-$100K on the light and you would see Watkins walking around with $25K in each pocket.

I'm pretty sure that Pred means a black guy at the Rack in Detroit from the action days.
....he started out racking and holding the stakes for some of the action games....
...a so--so player...but a good game maker.....became a millionaire.
The Rack had action for years that may never be seen again.....
....some of the money matches today for 10 or 20 Gs with long races.....
....we're not seen at the Rack....often two ahead for more money...
....five ahead was common....a lot of by the game action.

Im going with T Watson -His backer use to just give him a bankroll to take to the DCC in the early days at Exec West which was considered outrageous even back then.
