G-core is a decent lower deflection shaft. A dealer will tell you its Low deflection, but in actuality it is really about half as much deflection as their old maple shafts. You can contact Mcdermott through their website, www.mcdermottcue.com and they can get you quotes for whatever you want built...they were great to deal with when I had a ferrule replaced and a new leather wrap put on one of my cues. Good luck sir.

Why?
The old Mcd fiber ferrule absorbed chalk and moisture really bad.
The fiber ferrule manufacturer burnt to the ground years ago afaik.

What is the difference between the "old" McDermott fiber ferrules and any other fiber ferrules of the same era, or even this era?

I have an old 1980-84 McDermott shaft and one they made me a few years ago when I sent the cue in to be fully restored. I'm fairly certain that the ferrule materials aren't the same.

I'll have to take the cue out and compare the play/hit/etc. between the two shafts. It looks so NEW and SHINY that I haven't really taken it out for playing since I had it restored.
