Thank you, AtLarge!

great stuff..these stats seem to back up freddie's post in another thread pointing to shane hitting a higher gear, but chang being more solid overall.
unfortunately I didn't have the chance to give the match the ol' eye test, but it's fun to read about pool, too :)

shane appears to have missed a few balls..I wonder is 1 miss for every 4.7 games typical for him? what's the 10-ball 9ft. diamond etc. pro average?

I see a lot more safeties by chang, but is that due to less productive breaks or ? would it matter? does defense still win championships?

again, great stuff-

Yes, SVB missed more than Chang, but the miss rate was not abnormally high for either one. In the last "Clash of the Titans" match, Shaw and. Woodward were both at about one miss for every 3 games at the table.

In most stats threads, I have just posted the overall miss rate for the group of matches tracked, not rates for individual players based on the number of games in which they went to the table. For this challenge match, that overall rate was 3.4 games per miss (or, you could turn that fraction upside down and say the number of misses was 29% of the number of games). That overall 3.4 rate in this match compares with 1.8 in the Shaw/Woodward match. The last big 10-ball event I tracked on 9-footers was the World Pool Series Grand Final in January. The overall miss rate there averaged one miss per 1.6 games (tight pockets in that event).

As for the safeties, 7 of Chang's were his next shot after his own break vs. just 2 such safes for Shane.

Does defense win championships? Well, both offense and defense are usually necessary for wins in big events. In this event, Chang won 16 of the 24 games in which one or more safeties were played, so defense certainly helped him win.
