So I will try to make this a boring post. (badump bump tsh) So what do you all use to core your wood? Ream? Gun Drill? Long Drill? Boring bar?

And what would be a good place to get these things reasonably priced?

Bore a pilot hole to the diameter of your gun drill. I bore an inch deep or so. Sterling gun drills are what a lot of us use.

I use 18" long drill bits (eBay). Start by center drilling then using a normal length bit smaller then my target size. Bore to final size and then finish with the long bits.

If you are going from 1 end only, so it's short enough for that, I Glue a sacrificial piece on the end. It is also a guide to being at the end of the piece because of the colour change in the chips.
Not required if you drill from each end. But when drilling from each end, I temporary plug the end to stop stuff going all around the shop during breakthrough.

You need to make sure your work piece does not wobble inside your lathe spindle. If it does your hole will not be concentric with the opposite end. Especially if you plan on drilling from both sides.
