I am thinking about having my new cue
built with a 5/16x18 NC thread. Why Not?

What is the justification for having a 5/16x14
proprietary thread for cues. I realize there are
not any other shafts that are 5/16x18 NC.
How or why did that odd thread size get started?

I can't help with the history end of it, but I have cues with 5/16x14 and 5/16x18. I go through more shafts than butts, so I wish they were all (the vastly more common) 5/16x14. Shafts would be interchangable & new shafts would be easier to get (I tend to buy them used...I wait for someone that likes traditional shafts to try a 314 or OB2). Finding a used 5/16x18 OB2 taxes my patience. LOL

Primary Cue: Barry Szamboti (Pic1/Pic2)
Break Cue: Predator BK2

Less threads = more angle on the threads. I have wondered if that would create a tighter grip between the threads and more strength in the sideways plane?

I believe it had something to do with availabilty after the war George Balabushka used the 14 & others of that period. I would think that the 18 might have a tighter grip than the 14 due to the shallower slope but I have the 14 & it's plenty tight enough.
