OK, some random observations from a well placed observer who prefers to remain anonymous. I cannot personally vouch for the accuracy of all this stuff but the guy on scene is pretty good:

Over 500 in the banks.

Every table, to include the Action Room and 14.1 room, are being used to accommodate.

Larry Nevel has been seem in a wheel chair missing a leg just below the knee.

DO is giving Lil John 6 games on the wire going to 10 for $10K. Lil John lost the first set hill-hill. A second set ensues.

Evan Lunda is banking like Zeus.

There's construction at the casino and as a result the ice cream shop is gone.

Some regular amateur type guy drew SVB his first round and their table is swamped by a huge load of sweaters watching him get drilled.

That is all.

One of my favorite spectacles in all of sport, and my personal nightmare. :p

I drew Bergman early in 1P last year, and we got moved to table 35 (railbirds TV table) upstairs last minute. So, nobody witnessed my drubbing (in person anyway).

I’d say you’re correct. It’s nuts! I’ve tried helping people find tables. Svb also has a similar match in morning.

On Larry Nevel: Complications from diabetes is the going social media word. (Edit: see post below. Looks like complications from MRSA. Nasty stuff).

Me and Larry warmed up together before the banks. Short story, MRSA was the complication. Casino is all under construction. Main parking structure is closed so you have to use the hotel lot only. Parking will be even worse tomorrow so a giant cluster F with the hotel, kept taking bank entries when they were susposed to cut it off at 400. Action room is mostly not available and security is tight everywhere so watch paying bets openly. A casino lady confronted a few players early this morning after witnessing money changing hands with a security guard following up... VERY DISAPPOINTING YEAR SO FAR.

Security came up to me and another player at another casino while he was paying off.

I told the guard that the fellow borrowed $50 and he was paying it back.

Ain't chit they can do about someone making a personal loan and then getting paid back.

PS-cant believe the size of the crowds for day one.

500 in banks? what an enormous task to get through that especially under DCC conditions-They better have a full staff of capable guys and still.......

So Larry is still playing? With a prosthetic I assume.
Will this be a first in pool history?
Very sad situation, that infamous Nevel stroke was always a beauty to watch.

On a side note: what's with the policing of betting at a casino? In a week, how many millions are going to exchange hands over the Superbowl through bets? You'd think the casino is getting their end through the rooms/customer business. So why chase the gambling off?

Larry is playing from a wheelchair.

It’s truly inspiring...the drive for the game of pool the man has.

What about the dress code?? ;) Seemed like it was a major topic the other day. Is everyone being good and wearing their collared-shirt pool uniform?? The no-icecream deal must be brutal.
