A nice color coded map of the happiest and not so happiest states.

When it comes to the happiest state in America, Hawaii is the big kahuna.

Based on a new Gallup poll, the Aloha State took the top spot for overall well-being for the seventh year in a row.

The study — which was based on surveys with 115,000 adults in the U.S. across all 50 states over the entire year of 2018 — used those five factors to calculate scores on a scale of 0 to 100:

Hawaii ranked number one in three of the study’s five scoring factors: career, social and financial well-being. Hawaii also ranked highly in the physical and community well-being factors.

Wyoming, Alaska and Montana followed Hawaii as the states with the highest overall well-being.

Interestingly, while residents are happier in Hawaii, businesses aren’t — it’s one of the worst states to do business according to a 2018 study by WalletHub.

FILE - This Oct. 29, 2013 file photo shows tourists on Lanikai Beach in Kailua, Hawaii. Airbnb is pushing back against Hawaii's attempt to find tax delinquents by subpoenaing 10 years' worth of invoices, receipts and other records from the home-sharing platform's island hosts, calling it an unprecedented, "massive intrusion" that violates state and federal law.

West Virginia ranked last for the 10th year straight.

Other states near the bottom were Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

The study noted that “well-being in the U.S. exhibits regional patterns,” and that the Northern Plains and Mountain West generally rank higher on the index. “The lowest well being states are concentrated in the South and extend northward through the industrial Midwest.”

And nationwide, well-being has continued to decline.

An “erosion in social and career well-being” has contributed to a slide in the national index from 61.5 in 2017 to 61.2, extending losses that began in 2017, the Gallup study noted.

Been to Hawaii twice, if I could live there I'd be happier than a pig in slop. Beautiful place.

West Virginia ranked last for the 10th year straight.

Makes me sad to hear that. My wife and I guessed both happiest and saddest easily , however.

I figure we lead in pills and meth also.

We ARE the number one Trump supporters in America. That's something!

God bless each and every one of you

They didn't have Texas ranked very high. I thought us rednecks were always happy.

On another deal they had Austin Texas rated as one of the highest spots in the US for agressive drivers. What a pant load. My son lives in Austin. Last time he came to town he marvelled at the way folks drive in Houston. It's like Nascar on the freeways here. Maybe that is why Texas got a low rating, hardly any city in Texas has mass transit that doesn't absolutely suck, so you have to buckly up and get out there with the morons on the road. Especially those rednecks with the lifted trucks that like to drive 100 when traffic has come to a dead stop.
