I don't think that's Wimpys. It could be. It was owned by the Valentines until they sold out to a bank Nextdoor. I always heard stories of players and action there. It was located at the rail yard so people could get off the train and it was right there.

The photo is from library of congress archives for the name of the hall you gave. Looks like it's been a minute. Good luck with your research

More pictures here including the one posted. http://photogrammar.yale.edu/search/...&month_stop=12

Several pool hall pics from Elkins. It looks like they were taken in more than one pool hall.

So I am suspecting there may have been more than one pool hall in Elkins. Maybe or maybe not at the same time.

Searching Wimpy's instead of Wimpys can get better results:

I’m not going to say this was the best hot dog I’ve ever had. Or even second or third best. Those spots all belong to places in West Virginia with Wimpy’s Pool Hall in Elkins, WV in the early 1960’s still holding the top slot. (Wimpy’s dogs were even better when I finally turned 18 and could legally eat them accompanied by an ice cold Stroh’s or Iron City!)

Before my time, but I love the research.

Jeffrey Valentine

William Jeffrey "Jeff" Valentine, 54, a resident of Beverly, passed away Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009, in the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins.

He was born March 9, 1955, at Elkins, a son of the late Thomas "Wimpy" and Cornelia Levier Valentine.

On July 1, 1978, at the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church in East Dailey, he was married to Deborah Lynn Warner Valentine, who survives in Beverly.

Also surviving are two daughters, Michelle Dawn Valentine Talkington and husband, Bryan, of Elkins and Cassandra Noel Valentine, at home; and two grandsons, Thomas Aaron and Isaac Logan Talkington of Elkins.

Also preceding him in death was one brother, Thomas Robert "Bob" Valentine.

Jeff was a former owner of Wimpy's Billiards in Elkins prior to becoming disabled. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bernard Teter officiating. At Jeff's request, his remains will then be cremated.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, W.Va. 26520, in memory of Jeff. So, apparently it was called "Wimpy's Billiards".

Old Ad! https://archive.org/details/torchlight1944march NOTE: This is in North Carolina. Different pool hall.

That address looks like a residence though. So the business address may not have been the pool hall location? Not sure.

There was a Wimpy's in North Carolina.

Lots of hits for that. But it is unrelated as far as I can tell so far.

So the hot dogs were famous and I believe because of the chili. My mother has the recipe and everyone loves it. I know it was bought by Davis Trust bank which is located next to it. They turned it into a parking lot.

Yes it's not related. The Valentines owned it I do remember that.

I suggest you post in the main form for more attention. There are a lot of old timers around here that might remember the place.

I went to Elkins quite a few times from about 199x- 2003 for 2wheeled fun.

No pool there

I just found this thread...

I remember going there primarily to play pool, but the hamburgers and hot dogs were very good. I had some friends in Elkins and Valley Bend that I would visit, and I would play pool while I was in town.

IIRC this was in the mid-to-late 1980s.
