Some Oldies and Goodies

Was digging through one of my closets today to get rid of some junk and I had to move some oldies but goodies out of the way first.

None of them are million dollar cues, but one of them won the "Million Dollar Challenge" tournament in 1996.

In case you don't notice, I prefer cues with points. :)

The two Titlists at the bottom are my first and last custom conversions I've bought. Both of them are full-spliced and have one-piece butts.

The one on the bottom with the flashy red butt was made by Lloyd Bennett, of the A. E. Schmidt Co. in St. Louis, MO. I bought it new in 1973. It has two original shafts and I just had Scot Sherbine make the third one, without the steel collar, when I had him refinish the cue about a month ago.

The second one from the bottom was made for me by Mike Pancerny, of Detroit, MI, in 2012. I bought an old 1950s one piece Titlist and he converted it for me. It has one Pancerny shaft and I sent him the Predator 314-2 FAT blank for the second shaft. This is the cue I've been using as my main player ever since I got it. You can see the "before" and "after" at this link.

They all have a touch of old school class.

Fourth up from bottom with dots in points and sleeve, by chance, is that an Adam, done in "Rambow" style?

All the best,
WW

Yes. That is a full-spliced Adam Japan Rambow from around 1970, I think. It was refinished by Scott Gracio and it has original Cortland wrap.

nice mcdermotts :)

I like old McDermotts. Some of the best-hitting cues I've ever played with.

The McDermott RS-11 (third cue from the top) is this one. The cue C.J. Wiley is using in this video. I got it from C.J. I have the original shaft and a Meucci PRO shaft that was made for C. J., by Bob Meucci. I call it my McMeucci combo.

The other McDermott is a C-14 that I bought new in 1985, when their D-line just came out. The guy who owned the pool hall where I worked throughout my teens was one of McDermott's best selling buyers and I got it at his cost. It played so well, it became my player and I sold my custom Richard Black Casino cue that was made for me by Richard.

I had it refinished about five years ago and here are some better pictures of it.

Great set of cues.

I do dig the old McD's as well. And the Titlists. The Adam Rambow is a treasure. Of course you know I really dig your old AE Schmidt cue and followed your story on it with great interest.

I really like seeing a variety of these old cues. The high end fancy customs are nice, but I really dig these grassroots players of yesteryear.

Thanks for showing off!

Dean,

That cue and I go back quite a way...45 years. It is an A.E. Schmidt. If you want to read the story, here is the link.

I know it's not the most popular cue.but my fav is the fourth one from the top.
Flat faced brass pin with brown linen wrap. That cue is a silent assassin. Looks to be like a true player. what the story behind that cue?

The 5th cue from the top is a McDermott C-14. C-series cues were made 1980-84. I bought it "new" in 1985, when the D-series came out. I got it for 1/2 off.
