I've been following this forum for a while. I rarely see any Dishaw cues up for sale, trade or being purchased. Can someone enlighten me as to why? His cues are beautiful and beautifully made. I am seriously considering purchasing a new cue from him. Advice please.

One way to compare them in terms of price might be to PFD cues. They are decently high in price, but very nice looking cues. Not sure of the hit. I almost bought one myself about a year ago. If you do an advanced search you will see some Dishaw cues that have been sold within the last month or two.

I have heard people say the same thing about PFD cues so I am referencing others opinions. Other people have said PFD cues are very nice looking with cadillac pricing. I have not played with or seen either of the two in person, only off their websites and can agree, both look nice, but seem high in price. Just my opinion on it. No idea how they hit. If you need an example look at ivory alternate cues for $1600-$1800 that are listed in the Dishaw website. They look nice I would definitely say. Just my opinion.

Dishaw cues play great. My friend has one and not only does it look great but it plays great too.

The only issue with them is the resale value on them are not as high as some other custom cues. I don't know why that is, but it is what it is.

If you want a great playing/looking cue you can't go wrong with a Dishaw. If you are looking for a collector cue my suggestion would be go after something different.

I've heard nothing but good things about Dan's cues, and the one's I've seen are great looking too. The prices also seem reasonable. I met him at the BCA Nationals last month and he seems like a good guy to do business with.

I think some of the reason you haven't seen a lot of his stuff up for sale is timing. His work, while very good, is not considered in the top tier of collectibles (yet, anyway), and therefore prices have been hit harder by the down economy. And it also is probably just random. The first few months I came on this board there were several for sale. That's how I got wind of his work, was by seeing some of his cues offered here. Check back in time in the for sale forum and PM some of those guys if the cues aren't posted as sold. They may still be on the market if you offer the right price.

A lot of his cues go to Japan and high end buyers, these cues don't see the light of day!

IMO, nobody does a better cue finish than Dishaw. I have had a few of his cues, and that was one thing that really stood out, to me. I also loved his new line of guitars at the SBE this year...wish he would have had an amp set up so I could have tried one out!!

The compliment gets even better when a fellow cuemaker thinks highly of his work.

Thank you, I know Dan and have known him for years and I would never say it, if it wasn't true, The man makes a very good playing cue. Dan is a gentleman and a true Cue maker who is not known to beat around the bush. He has expert knowledge when it comes to wood and what to do with it. His cues speak for themselves. I hope this helps.

Another thing that Dan does really well is deliver a cue ON TIME. Not cue-marker time.

Dan was president of the American Cuemakers Assoc for years. He has given a lot to the art. His cues have a beautiful finish and overall aesthetic. He also has a knack for finding some of the most beautifully figured woods. Maybe his instrument making background is a part of it, but he has consistently rolled out original designs with beautiful combinations of materials.

I have a Dan Dishaw cue. Nice balance and weight. I have Kamui black tips on it. Nice soft hit. Cue is easy to play with. I would recommend them.
