Instantly recognized as one of the preeminent luxury retailers on Earth....for the past 183 years. An arbiter of excellent taste that I’m sure your dear wife will appreciate for decades, sir!

I absolutely love the 8-ball with the Tiffany blue numeral. They look exquisite upon the Slate Grey baize.

Hello again, Mr B.

Sincere congratulations, dear fellow!

That Tiffany set really is an awesome purchase, sir, and one I did not expect for a second. I am supremely confident in stating that very few discerning collectors will ever own those beautiful balls. It is an iconic brand and a truly wonderful addition to your collection. It is surely no overstatement to say that your new set is right up there with Raschig’s Four Players or Hyatt’s Reverse Romaniques as an example of a true collecting great. Bravo, sir!

Regards the most expensive (playable) pool ball set that money can buy, I think Mr B is alluding to Louis Vuitton’s astonishing billiard trunk and its accompanying branded balls. Only $57,000!

Best wishes, everyone.

The perfect pool trilogy:

- take a quirky pool ball set (1) and combine that with a unique and equally quirky set of game rules (2) and match those with a soundtrack for ambiance (3).

Here’s one example for today’s PBC thread contribution:

(1) a Dirty Pool ball set

(2) the game Dirty 101 from the 40-page booklet

(3) Stevie Ray Vaughan and his 1983 track titled “Dirty Pool” from his Texas Flood album...

True love is gone, I's been played for a fool
True love is gone, I's been played for a fool
I'm turnin' the tables on you
You've been playin' dirty pool
You said you'd call the shots darlin'
All your friends thought that was cool
You said you'd call the shots darlin'
All your friends thought that was cool
Yeah, but when you shot at the eight ball baby
I knew you were playin' dirty pool
They say that life, life is a game of give an' take
They say that life, life is a game of give an' take
I'm tellin' you one thing right now little baby
I won't be the one to pay for your mistakes, oh, no baby

- spoken so eloquently, sir.

From the creators of this 32-ball set you’ll notice this intro: “THE RULES ARE SIMPLE .. HAVE FUN .. PLAY DIRTY”.

A 32-ball SET is what caught my attention

Without further ado (yes, that’s the proper form) here they are in their original ball boxes from my vault:

Most likely manufactured in Asia from your typical 2000’s resin makeup, they are of decent quality with fairly tight weight variances. They measured, rolled and played well for a few hours and cleaned up like new with an easy 30 second spin in the Diamond machine.

What I think makes this set worth acquiring is that you get two full boxes of balls that will give folks enough NEW and unique game options to last a lifetime of casual, fun play - without having to buy any other sets.

I’d put these in the GIFT category you just may want to grab for a friend or fellow collector - after all, there aren’t too many 2-BOX sets out there

They come with a 40-page rule book and equally quirky set of rules that does take time to wade through but have a few hidden gems in there for the adventuring player.

From their site as well...

CALLING YOUR SHOT IS NOT DIRTY ENOUGH .. SO DON'T

Play on, Stevie!

I don’t collect new sets. Nothing wrong with them but not just my thing . I go to the thrift stores and look more for vintage balls or unique balls from other billiard games. If there is a new or nearly new set or amariths for $20 or so, I’ll nab them but no interest in logos, newershiny sets in boxes, etc.

Re quality. A fun thing is taking balls into our research lab and measuring them....symmetry, density, weight.. Balls today, are not just more consistent in all three but ‘way’ more consistent. To within almost a thousandth of a cm as opposed to a hundredth of a cm of any set older than 35 years. Likely due to computerized machine tooling. Weights similar...balls very consistent today. It would be interesting to hear from members here w ho understand today’s machining..at age 15 I worked in a brass fittings factory (literally 51 years ago) and everything was done manually with callipers..

I have a couple of older sets ( sort of a Bakelite?)from The 1930s and they were likely thought to be ‘good enough’...gives me new admiration for those guys back then. They must have learned not just to read the cloth but got to know individual balls on the table.

Balls wear but even with older balls that were not used there is inconsistency in a set that isn’t found today.

Good evening, Mr K.

I admire the enterprise of those fellows with the Dirty Pool concept, dear chap. Presumably, they have purchased inexpensive sets and harvested the balls required for their own particular game inventions. It’s a clever way to create a custom ball set(s) at a relatively low initial outlay and I hope they’re successful in such an endeavour.

Many thanks for sharing, sir.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen.

Here is a screenshot of the latest insert card, part of an ongoing project to record the historical provenance of my treasured billiard ball collection. If anyone is interested to learn a little more about the camera technique employed to counter lens distortion, or how I drew the computer generated image at the base of the card, please refer back to the original post (number 1133).

Best wishes,

That cue ball. Genius. It looks like it could even double as a training ball.

I would love to invest if and when you are ready to enter into the production stage. Good luck!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate somebody taking the time to read through my article and then offer such generous words of support, dear fellow. I am sincerely grateful. If the custom Roulette Pool balls ever near production, sir, I will ensure that you are kept fully informed from an early stage.

Thanks to a tip from a friend, I was able to add this set of eye-popping numberless colors to my collection.

Is anyone familiar with this particular set? I'm looking for any info. Thanks!

Shipped to the original owner, along with a dozen other sets, in a Hyatt Ball Co. labeled crate. The box I received features no branding or other markings.

I was wondering who would snag that off-beat set - kudos, Chuck!

Any details you can share by way of weight and diameter on each ball? How about the box and anything you can glean from it or the inside edges? I’ve got a hunch is all, but will wait for intel

200k and going strong, RC! New faces and new sets being shared.

We have pallets and racks of ball sets and goodies to share for the PBC thread in the year ahead, but before we do that, I need to extend another

for getting this thread off the ground from your treasure hideout, sir! It’s been a fabulous adventure balling about per se hunting like pirates for phenolic hideaways the last few years.....and with the sloop restocked and stores aboard, it’s time we set sail for other shores to trade golden coins for golden balls.

Good morning, Chuck.

I’ve never seen that particular set before, sir. I love them! Perhaps they are a salesman’s sample set to exhibit all the possible colours available? I’m certainly intrigued to learn what else was in the crate?

Good morning, Mr K.

Sincere thanks for those kind words, dear fellow. Nobody has contributed more to this thread than your good self, my friend. Your superb photographs and wonderful articles are always deeply appreciated.

Had you seen Chuck’s beautiful set advertised previously somewhere else, sir?
